This agreement confirms there will be a long term viable market for more expensive lower carbon fuels, a major obstacle for suppliers and developers of lower carbon ingredients. In the short to medium term biofuels will fill this space as intended by the IMO until other options become commercially available.

However as we know standard MSAR is compliant until 2035 I think, providing an immediate drop-in solution come 2028, with biomsar taking it on from there Though MSAR can still have a huge role in reducing the penalties owed well beyond as it takes time to ramp up production of lower carbon options. Without this agreement, use of lower carbon alternatives would remained merely an option for a select few large shipping companies for PR purposes. As of 2028 it becomes reality for all.

Quadrise offers the perfect drop-in alternative and if all goes even remotely to plan, we should have two solutions available by 2028 initially for MSC, but eventually the wider market as commercial supply ramps up and further low carbon ingredients become available.

Given this backdrop, confirmation of PoC start and agreements signed should kick-start our route to commercial success, eventually on a Global scale.

You can argue that each agreement is equally important as without any one of them nothing happens. For me, the most important is that between Cargill and MSC, customer and supplier. That’s usually what matters in business ultimately. We can have the other two which takes us to fuel production and delivery, but without a customer it goes nowhere.

If we take previous Quadrise guidance as a benchmark, then it’s highly unlikely the trials will begin in May. June is more likely and less of a rush to organise (JM comments at IMC). Once we know for certain they're starting I’m sure the market will react positively.

The LONO hasn’t been passed for MSAR, why are you misrepresenting reality?

We have an interim LONO which may encourage MSC to use MSAR this year but Quadrise have also made clear that a full LONO will be required. These are the facts. “Commercial” use of msar this year would likely be nothing more than a commitment to finish a full LONO on an MSC vessel. I’d be delighted if that’s what develops.

What would make the Utah project massive, is news of identified prospective customers not generalised ones, that’s what this project has been missing.

In other QED trials/projects there’s been an end user identified to Quadrise from day one. With Utah it’s been about proving a commercial means of oil recovery before looking for customers.

Any news of a deal with an end user for a trial really would be a massive step forward.

What are you talking about you idiot? We know the Utah oil can be converted to msar, it’s been done before so it won’t be “massive” for Quadrise. It s a case of tweaking the formula to suit oil/bitumen from this location.
