Your calculations make £7,600. How many fractions of a penny?
Here's some numbers on streaming and my view on the future.
- Spotify pay artists $0,0032 per stream (they don't, they pay aggregators and distributers, who pay labels, who then pay artists, everyone takes out there “costs” along the chain)
- Apple Music - $0,0056
- Google Play Music - $0,0055
- Deezer - $0.00436
So 760m streams on spotify. Would generate a payout £2,432,000 of which 10% - 15% would go to the distributor and aggregator (364,800) the label would take off costs (which really vary depending on promotion budgets) and then pay the artist 50% at most, some are on far worse. An artist would be lucky to see £1,000,000 of that income. 760m plays needed to become a millionaire.
If an artist/Label released that track on Blockchain via distribution or issuing there own NFT. Then said we will accept a minimum of $0.006 per stream, then what ever platform fee's added after, is up to said company. The artist/Label will be directly paid £4.56m. Around double. If an artist cuts out a label, over four times current earnings. The Artist/label also has far less accounting work and If anyone wants to licence the music to film, tv, game, hours and weeks of emails and negotiations are now no longer needed as the smart contract has all licensing options attached. If the artist gave points to singers or musicians for there performance when recording, this is also programmed into the smart contract and rights owners paid accordingly. Less paper work, less time, more efficiency, more money.
Now ask yourself if you were an artist or label what you would be looking to with the future. No brainer.
Worth a watch to be up to date with the cutting edge of the industry direction right now.
