The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
I just want to add my thanks to Spikeyj for sharing The Times (TT) article. I buy TT usually after each quarter results but I would have therefore missed this article. TT usually have good Aviva coverage. I keep hanging on and reinvesting as much of the dividends as I can afford (capital return reinvested). A have very sizeable investment now (used to work at Aviva 22 years). Every since 2008 the SP has been frankly a disaster and the dividend cuts very painful. However I have always been of the view that the shares were way too cheap and would eventually turn when Aviva got its act together. Little did I know it would take this long! However every since AB has become CEO I feel now we will make progress. The market just needs to see results. I am therefore hanging on a bit longer now as within the next 12 months I hope to goodness the market sees the attractiveness of the shares and away we go. I would be super annoyed if I sold/reduced now! GLA.
Firstly, I am out of the country this week, off to snowier climbs ????if anyone could post a link to any newspaper articles on Friday I would be grateful ??. Well, this is the MOT. This will be the first full year with clean set of results. The share price has stagnated for the last six months or so but I believe this is because the market is waiting for the full year results announcement to see details of the confirmed dividend/share buyback/any nice surprises?! I hope ?? to be pleasantly surprised. Amanda Blanc has been pulling up trees in my opinion to turn this company around. I have been invested over 25 Years and hope THIS is the moment when the market seems Aviva’s potential?! Capital return fullly reinvested so have nervous expectations! Good luck ?? to all.
...they pull me back in! (I love the God Father trilogy!). Now fully reinvested the majority of my B shares & dividend proceeds. On the whole my overall shareholdings have increased. :-)
I get everybody's view point - my own personal opinion is I have been invested with Aviva for over 25 years & have been mightily disappointed with the share price performance for goodness knows how long! However for the first time since its creation back I feel we have the right CEO in charge who is taking action & at pace. The overall view point from the City is she is well respected & has an excellent track record.
She has been in charge since July 2020 & has been making rapid progress. I am now in for the next few years riding the wave of a rising dividend & hopefully share price before I take action to make the long planned reduction in my holding (which I had no chance of doing for the last 15+ years whilst the SP stagnated. I refused to sell when I knew Aviva was very undervalued!
@hitman1a - I asked a questions about this at the Aviva AGM. Q1 results presentation shows SII ratio 198% = £8.3bn so rough calc for 180% = £7.5bn (£0.75bn XS). Interest rates due to rise further so this will be good for XS SII cover ratio. You can be rest assured Cevian will be pushing for return of XS ASAP! Also agree DJIA slump is timely for us as dividend & potentially B shares proceeds due tomorrow so can reinvest. Let's see where this goes from now as we shall see a 'clean' set of results going forward. GLA - Aviva!
I attended the Aviva 2022 AGM (it wasn't me asking those bad questions/making those bad comments). There were three priorities. Two have now been completed. The third I am hoping (fingers crossed) to see progress on with Q1 announcement - i.e. growth! I worked with Amanda 28 years ago when she was the Branch Manager for Commercial Union in Leicester. I rate her highly. I will be reinvesting the majority of my B shares money as I feel (maybe naively) Aviva will now start going places. I hope so in order for me to start divesting some of my Aviva holdings! For 20 years these have been under valued IMO but I do hope to offload in a couple of years some of my holding as I feel the market will start to take notice. GLA.
Hello, this is my first post. I have been reading the postings with interest on this site but never got around to joining until now.
My background, I worked at Aviva (started 1990 at Commercial Union) & was made redundant in 2012. I have always been interested in share investment & as soon as I was able I was doing SAYE/SIP's with Aviva & accumulating the shares. My portfolio has a VERY heavy weighting in Aviva!
To say I have been disappointed in the Aviva share price for the last 20 years is an understatement but somehow I have (on the whole apart from a few share sales for holidays) I have held firm & not sold because I KNOW the share price is too low!
I feel (hopefully not misplaced) that 2022 WILL be the year Aviva gets going! My reasoning:-
i) Aviva has a new CEO who has taken ACTION by refocusing the business at pace selling off 8 countries & now focusing on 3 core markets where they have the size to win.
ii) The balance sheet has been rebuilt & now very strong.
iii) Debt is being paid down significantly.
These 3 points I have read time & time again as issues for investors - now resolved. In addition, with interest rates starting to rise (good for banks/insurers), investors will become interested in unloved value stocks/markets as can be seen by the FTSE100 outperforming since the start of 2022. I don't want to jinx it but Brexit is hopefully now in the past!
EOY results we are due due circa £4bn capital return so now only just over a month & a half to wait for some action. I am sure the CEO is keeping some aces up her sleeve to surprise us?! In addition there is a UKGI Commercial Lines presentation tomorrow which I will look on with interest...
As a previous CEO (Andrew Moss) once said "One Aviva Twice The Value". Lets hope 2022 will be the year & I can then start to rebalance my portfolio.
