All said remain very optimistic. Came back to investing here in November, after originally investing way back at floatation.
Then came Lufkin and ADNOC announcement in quick succession, was losing my shirt but hung in. Infrastructure and very high competence are all there at Petrofac and like many I expect strong recovery over time.
As for Johny Two Toes, best antagonist on the board. If I know Johny he'll be sitting with his feet up dreaming about his polar expedition where he lost three toes to frostbite. He wont give a monkeys about us lot! :)
Agree Tiger, Pab's post is very good.
Company has had a kicking but refinancing is what's behind recent upturn. It then becomes a matter of recovering market share and SFO are a part of that in terms of the order book. Delivering on contacts and rebuilding becomes absolutely key and I'm glad Pablo doesn't talk numbers. That process will take time and there will be some kicks where it hurts along the way as we all know!
gelston, brochrock, I salute you.
An old tortoise will have trotted past many a sleeping hare in my time and so will you I hope. (extended metaphor!) Will this rocket? I hang with brochrock re SFO, rerate could come around 140-150, fulfil new contracts.. regain market share. Onwards!
As David Brent would say, "What dose a squirrels do in the winter..hide their nuts. Think squirrels, think nuts! "
Go Q86 it's time for …."Everyone buy, price going up! I'm not a nutter!"
Hi Buffer
Fair play, I was thinking funny time to short but instinct really can work in this game and you enter it from what ever angle you chose.
Respect
Hi Buffer your tag is reminiscent of Warren Buffet and that's verrrry clever! I don't believe you shorted at this time, any half decent short invester/borrower would at least let things stabilise a bit before you pick an exit. Otherwise you'll end up more of a Duffer than a Buffer!
Good to see Stockready back diagnosing mental illness though, we need a bit of madness, helps the rest of us sane! :)
Kind words Poker? Did someone say something kind on this board? Wash your mouth out with Brent crude before you think about returning! :)
Only problem we have is that it was Paddy who called it.....kidding Paddy, well done!
Lucy it may be a big fine, it may be a moderate fine but payable in instalments and Petrofac have made arrangements as you point out so thanks for the reassurance all round. You're right and that's why the share price is increasing and the shorters are flying off to look for another wounded animal.
I was just wondering though, given you and JohnSmith (and others) worry so much about the rest of us losing money, have you any recommendations for where we could make more that we're currently making right here?
Thanks Kitty, a Barclays call has weight for me. Whoever it was who gleefully announced this was a penny share last month, it ain't now.
Tortoise here again
I'm an "auld tortoise" as we say in Scotland. Re shorters, they have their place in the game, you can actually use them to your advantage. When you see them talking stock down, read carefully and you'll realise there's usually no substance, some classic examples on this board recently. However, if you feel they have actually succeeded at any point in talking the stock down a bit, then it may be your time to buy....ZZzzzz :)
As Blowfeld might say...Come in Mr Stockready, come in Mr JoshSmith, we were expecting you! :)
If it wasn't for S being next to D on the keypad Mary I'd have said that's one of the best Freudian slips in a while!
So Kitty we're saying PFC most shorted share in entire market?
If you're right, then to rationalise this the Lufkin confession in January led to a 40% drop in the share price...clatter! Then the ADNOC announcement in March suspending Petrofac from tendering for contracts in the UAE while under SFO investigation led to a further 30% drop....Clang! Hence all the inevitable interest from shorters basically gambling on more short term bad news. Personally I don't see it as a bad thing, it really just reflects the current position of risk/uncertainty. As we know, for those interested in the long term outcome, shorters actually keep the price down for a while if you're thinking about a longer term investment.
Good point Dogs. You could almost see a need for an investigation into any serious fraud going on in the Serious Fraud Office!
Reminds me of a time in a crowded street in Amsterdam when a male/female duo came right into or space explaining some leaflets highlighting the issue of pick-pocketing, while their accomplice was trying to pick-pocket us!
Any views mitdoow? Saying "you hope" kinda just leaves us teetering on two toes waiting for some inspiration?
Corbs this is a discussion forum and that's fair enough. No one should ever be on advising others to buy or sell. I sometimes give my opinion and I have some insights into oil and gas but none of us ever have real insight into the running of Petrofac, including most of the employees. What I do know is that when the motorways fill up again , the cruise ships sail and aeroplanes fly, Petrofac will have a role to play and hopefully be in clearer water come that time.
Go Warthog, agree with the sentiment. I suspect most MPS may be more likely to be chased by the SFO than having any influence, including those in high places but at least the SFO tell them how things are going before the rest of us get to Know, often to their advantage! Strongly agree with those in PFC for the long game. Cripes says "Look at the graph!", like your style Cripes but unless you think Petrofac is dead in the water, which it isn't by a long chalk, then look at the graph!
This stock is as flat as we've see it in months today. You'd be tempted to think people have taken Johny's advice :) but probably means a core of larger scale investors are hanging in. Petrofac remains a very high tech, very capable outfit of 1100 plus employees and countless dependent contractors. I agree it has challenges to overcome but it remains a very responsive operator, no stock in this sector is ever dead Johny, stay on your toes in this game! :)
