2. Conditions

The selected National Staff will work in the Economic and Development Cooperation Section, Embassy of Japan in Timor-Leste.

1) Salary: According to the Embassy of Japan’s regulations

2) Working hours: Monday to Friday 8:45-17:30, including one-hour lunch break. Overtime and weekend work may also be requested.

3. Job Description

1) Collect and compile information on economic and development topics on a daily basis.

2) Collect information and data on Timor-Leste’s economy by conducting research on open source and communicating with the relevant personnel of Government of Timor Leste.

3) Accompany the Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste and other high-ranking officials to meetings, events and

ceremonies for development cooperation projects and provide interpretation and other services.

4) Other assistant tasks for the diplomats of the Embassy of Japan in Timor-Leste, particularly the head of Economic and Development Cooperation Section

11. Both leaders shared the view that the infrastructure sector is the engine of national development. In this context, Prime Minister Gusmão appreciated Japan’s assistance to infrastructure development. Both leaders reaffirmed the growing significance of foreign investments to Timor-Leste as well as their shared commitment to continuing the effort to improve the investment environment in Timor-Leste. Prime Minister Gusmão welcomed investments from Japan’s private sector and expressed his commitment to facilitating them.

2. Building upon more than 20 years of friendly and cooperative relations including Japan’s contribution to Timor-Leste’s development as a peaceful and democratic nation, both leaders expressed their willingness to further promote the bilateral relationship by elevating it from the “Advanced Partnership towards Growth and Prosperity” to the “Comprehensive Partnership towards Sustainable Growth and Development.”

12. Both leaders shared the view that Timor-Leste, as a producer of oil and natural gas, had contributed to Japan’s energy security, and would continue to play an important role in this field. Both leaders reaffirmed that the two countries would continue their close cooperation in this area.

Xanana explained, in 2024 the government will propose in three vital sectors to have more sustainable investment in

productive infrastructure, for energy viable to be accessed by the population. The second is infrastructure investment.

The third is petroleum and gas investment to invest in natural resources and promote a sustainable economy. The ninth government will establish a refinery and fuel station in the south coast area to store the petrol and gasoline from Greater Sunrise, develop national petroleum investment and provide job opportunities for the Timorese people. Therefore, the state budget 2024 has demonstrated that strategic measures are essential in other sectors to achieve economic growth and country development in the long term to have sustainable investment for the new generation. The nine governments want to open job opportunities for around 50,000 Timorese people during the construction and operational phases of the construction process. The government will implement the Development Sustainable Plan (PED2011-2030 in 2024) to positively impact all of Timor-Leste in the upcoming years.
