At separate meetings in the past couple of weeks both China and Australia, have committed to increasing their budget and assistance to the development of Asean Countries.

Timor Leste has one foot in the door to full Asean member status already, which is expected be granted this year. Likewise WTO membership, the political doors and funding/investment opportunities are opening up for them. 🤔

In early 2020, the China Harbor Engineering Company started to construct the Tibar Bay port. When completed the Tibar Bay port, operated by French company Bolloré, will become the main gateway to Timor-Leste, and will replace the smaller port facility in Dili. China had previously supported Timor-Leste with other infrastructure projects including the Presidential Palace. In June 2020, China agreed to support two more infrastructure projects: a hospital and a school with a $14 million DONATION.
