PaulD,
thanks for posting. It's an extremely important article to read. If the politics are secured , Navatis will find it far easier to both raise finance and green light development .
Extracts from the article ....
"Israel is very interested in Argentine hydrocarbons and minerals, particularly lithium and copper. First and foremost, it is worth noting that Israeli capital has already gained a foothold in the Falkland Islands. In 2022, the Israeli oil company Navitas Petroleum acquired a 65% stake in the offshore oil production project Sea Lion. According to the company, initial oil production will be launched by the end of 2027 and will range from 55 to 80 thousand barrels per day. Taking into account the fact that Argentina considers the Falklands to be its national territory, in 2022 Buenos Aires imposed sanctions on the company and in September 2023, it again declared its activities illegal. However, after Milei came to power in December 2023, Argentina turned a blind eye to the activities of the Israeli company."
"In the second half of November 2024, CCAI and the Israeli Embassy held an Argentine-Israeli business meeting, which was attended by President Milei. During the event, he stated that the government is working on a ‘historic’ memorandum of understanding between Israel and Argentina, which will be a bilateral “alliance in defence of freedom and democracy, the fight against terrorism and dictatorships”.
The details of the agreement were not disclosed, but it is noted that it will cover several issues, including increasing bilateral trade and the influx of Israeli investments in energy, water resources, agriculture, healthcare, tourism, as well as cooperation in security and intelligence issues, intelligence sharing and deepening defence cooperation in the field of cybersecurity. The last point is supposed to be a response to Iran’s increased cooperation with Venezuela and Bolivia."
