Planned quayside and midstream dredging at Bretana is a strong indication of future increased loads. The current satellite view at Manaus is also interesting: zeroing in on berth points shows up one or two hefty >20k barrel barges.

1) Having noted a"tanker" east of Iquitos yesterday it led me to check annual tidal differential on the Ucayali. It seems to be 6 m approx (but could be merely guesswork).

Whilst not concerned about double-hulled barges occasionally grounding, previous mention of cargoes in close convoy (minus GPS) is another matter. By comparison most vessels on the Missi, which suffered seriously low river levels last summer, are equipped. I would think convoy habits on the Amazon-Ucayali are best avoided.

I'd like to think Yuri has an occasional chat with Mark Bristow following the Barrick/Acacia days. Mineralisation (Au/Cu) west of Ramula is pronounced in the Masumbi area, Siaya Co.
