Ocado have put 20 years of experience into their current technology offering. They are pioneers in the online grocery market. Grocers can't compete with Amazon or develop their own world beating tech so they source it from Ocado and others.

Online grocery tech is a huge, expanding industry, room for many different players/solutions.

Amazon have very advanced technology. Not as advanced as Ocado in online grocery robotics but they are pouring money into catching up.

Ocado, since Amazon announced it was prioritising expanding into the online grocery market when it purchased Wholefoods, has thrived on the competition with Amazon. Ocado's big profits come when the large number of planned CFCs around the world open. Yesterdays announcement means that future CFCs will be able to be opened quicker and will be less costly.

Ocado will still need to greatly invest in their operations every year so that they remain ahead of the competition. If they remain ahead then a lot more contracts will follow.

I believe we will get to the moon (£25+) one day. Previously we had a second hand decent spaceship to get there. After yesterday's announcement I believe we have a shiny new spaceship. Market conditions are a big factor that could blow us off course. Incredibly volatile markets lately, today looks very choppy also. I believe our spaceship will though use cutting edge artificial intelligence to swerve the asteroids the market throws at us and safely deliver us to our destination.

After yesterday's new product unveil Ocado now have cheaper, better robots that fit in existing buildings. This greatly reduces robot build cost and allows quicker, cheaper build out of CFCs. Ocado roughly receive 4-5% of the value of all the goods that are processed in one of their supported CFCs. If CFCs are built faster then this revenue will flow quicker to Ocado. Ocados new tech is far more versatile so it will appeal to an even greater range of grocers.

Yes, the robotic pick solution has come in a lot earlier than what was envisaged. Shows that Haddington dynamics and kindred systems purchases are starting to add real value to the OSP quickly..

The new developments today greatly escalate Ocado Solutions online grocery offering. More overseas grocery contracts will come as a result.

Ocado now have a truly outstanding, more adaptable offering that will be (good news for shareholders) cheaper to run.

Key overall points are that the new bot is cheaper and easier to manufacture and service. So Ocados costs going forward will benefit.

New grid system and bot fit in any building so don't need the huge current CFC setup. That opens up Ocados solutions to far more potential customers around the world.
