Still a cautious buying opportunity... and I've joined the party on this morning's price weakness.
Up to 30/09/22, the company remained profitable and cash-generative, in which case I'm happy to wait until sentiment improves.
The worry here is that next week's results may disappoint and G4M turns out to be a leaky share...

Astonishingly generous. Who reins in these management excesses on behalf of us, the owners? Nobody it seems. Shareholders voting with their feet as the share price drops another 6% this morning.

Yup, there wasn't much competition when Schroders took over management of the Trust from W.I.M., as the portfolio was viewed as a bit of a poisoned chalice at the time. In the 3 years since, all they seem to have done is manage the decline. If they're learning on the job, they are certainly getting well paid for it.
Must be fair though and acknowledge that these are not the best of times to be investing in pre-profitable private companies, as the performance of any number of 'growthy' private equity investment trusts would testify.

Despite a stated spread of 70p-75p, I was actually quoted 71.2p to buy and impossible to obtain any quote to sell.

Yes, the volatility today is exceptional. Several intraday moves of +/- 7%. Someone's dumping and then buying back hard.
Either that, or the dark arts are in play... lol

That's too simplistic. You must know, companies can languish in the doldrums for years - decades even - and that's as good as permanent in most investor's time-frames.

To me, something fundamental doesn't feel right here. Not long ago this was a darling growth stock, wasn't it? Now it feels like those days - those £2 and £3 days and even £4 days - are sadly well behind us. Amazing to me how quickly this has happened. It has a ring of permanence.

In short, we've entered a new paradigm and the company & its management team have somewhat lost their mojo - they are slipping under these new economic conditions.

Hoping for the best though - loss aversion keeps me here.

In all those pages of analysis, how can they not even mention the name Woodford and his legacy on SUPP and its portfolio? If you buy SUPP today, and into the foreseeable medium term, you are substantially taking a bet on the Woodford picks. Doesn't get a mention. History blanked and re-written!
Likewise no mention of the truly appalling worst-in-class performance over 5 years. Rather it's all lame excuses about the Schroder Juniors and how we must give them more time. They've had 3 years and have done nothing to improve the performance or the shocking discount... and that's mostly down to the Woodford picks, but no mention again.

As a LTH, I agree with one thing: One day - eventually - this trust will begin to do better - it can hardly do worse can it? - but in the meantime, prepare for many, many more grey hairs.
As for the authors, Trust Intelligence, I admit to using them when researching other investment trusts, but such one-sided writing is a joke!

Apart from the 1st post of this thread, absolutely no one is interested in addressing the actual contents of the Liberum note. Totally indicative of this board, which is one of the least informative and least informed out there - I'd learn more about Boohoo hosting a tea party for chimps than I do on this board for bickerers.

10 years may not be far off the mark. That's the problem with these recovery plays - enormous patience required, with lots of uncertainty - the company's share price could easily bump along near its all-time lows for a long time, as has been the case here.
One can always make a case for Costain in these conditions, with its long-term, secure and often inflation protected contracts... and the last trading update was encouraging... but the truth is that buying Costain has been like throwing money into a stagnant pond.

And here is the expected retrenchment, down 9% this morning. After a 70% rise in a week, it's not surprising. Still, I'm left encouraged, less about the RNS but more about what the recent share price action tells us about improving sentiment. Perhaps investors on the other side of the pond, who are closer to the action after all, see a clearer pathway to profitability. They can be an optimistic lot our American cousins.

Well, some people made money here. Those that sold stakes at IPO when MADE was a £700m company, just 16 months ago. The fact that current management had little skin in the game was, on reflection, another red flag which I ignored.

With all these recent announcements, I'd expect better revenue growth than 17% quarter-on-quarter, for the current 2023 fiscal year.
If we start at $1m for quarter 1, then according to my back-of-a-fag-packet calculation, we would need about 70% quarter-on-quarter growth to get to $10m sales for the year. I'm hoping you meant 70% not 17% littlegrandma!
Anyway market likes it all, which is the main thing.

All this progress and still the price drops. I'd like to say the market is crazy... but I can't help wondering nervously why the market disregards what I see as obvious great prospects...

Hey Silverblade, they did indeed post the briefest update on Q1 2023, as you hoped. The usual concern is the revenue and, to me, $1m revenue in the quarter isn't much to shout about in the context of guidance of $10m for the full year 2023 . I look forward to reading yr views.

That the share price is holding up well this morning, maybe to do with that positive broker's note, if it indeed exists. If you get a chance to read it, do paste it or post a link Hawker.
