Pipeline to take 8 months according to TPDC interview today (2 / 2)8 Jul 2025 22:58
Aminex, a UK-listed company, owns a 25 percent non-operating interest in the Ntorya project.
The project is expected to help meet Tanzania's growing energy needs and support the government's efforts to reduce energy poverty.
In another step, a private energy company, ARA Petroleum, is preparing to drill a new gas well in the Ntorya area and upgrade two existing wells.
The gas produced from the wells will be transported to the Madimba Plant through a new pipeline.
"The private sector is leading the drilling work, while TPDC is focusing on the construction of the pipeline to ensure the gas reaches Madimba.
Tests will be conducted on two existing wells to determine whether the gas can be processed directly at Madimba or whether a small pre-treatment facility will be required. Natural gas is often moist, so it may need to be further purified," he said.
This comes just days after TPDC and Energetech-Tantel signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to begin processing and distributing natural gas across the country.
The agreement carries a two-year work plan that includes studies, necessary permits, detailed engineering, financing, and ultimately, the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The Commissioner for Petroleum and Gas from the Tanzanian Ministry of Energy, Goodluck Shirima, has said that private sector investment is important, as it provides solutions that can be used to develop Tanzanian industries.
The first LNG production is expected within the next 12 months according to the signed contract.
"Our priority is to develop domestic gas consumption. Once operational, Tanzanian households and industries will benefit from clean gas energy, thereby reducing production costs," he said.
