Metro can’t keep lending to support UK plc if the boe doesn’t help with capital buffer requirements.... so fingers crossed were +20% scenario ;-)

Hmmm for context a year ago Uk gilts were 1% plus... today less than 0.2%.... maybe RR coupon is effective comparable?

A lot has changed cleared... and IF (big if) metro need to raise more you’d expect the macro rates to influences positively the coupon.

I think the light at the end of the tunnel is the £1bln+ bbls loans guaranteed by the government... that after first year will pay 2.5% fixed to metro for duration.... Not a bad way to boost the net interest income ratio!

Subsequently Imo boe will need to flex the capital buffers required by a smaller bank...

Agree with both... but in certain situations they’ll have no choice.

Eg If Bacal secured (directly or indirectly)another 21% scenario...

Maybe Bacal bought because of some dodgy ramping on this BB??

Maybe Bacal bought because he was taken with the profit machine that is metro??

Maybe he bought because he wanted to donate his money to the shortest??

Then again... maybe he’s bought c15m shares because of some other intent!!

Buying / turning around struggling banks is what he’s done time and again... he sniffed around Sabadell too... and clearly sees uk opportunity.... no other reason for the 9% stake via his offshore entity... I Doubt he bought in the hope metro’s strategy gets them back into profit 2024... billionaires don’t play like that...

Maybe other vultures circling too.... time will tell, but I’m guessing weeks not months now...

As we approach November... won’t be that long until the 12 month high meets Bacal’s stake building price point .. could be an interesting period in run up to Christmas!

The last sentence below re. Firms’ experiences... is key to a more likely reduced requirement for Metro imo.

I’m guessing we’ll lose the standardised mrel calculation against balance sheet... replaced by a more pragmatic and individual requirement... once confirmed this will be the best Christmas present for holders!

BoE is committed to, before the end of 2020, review the calibration of MREL and the final compliance date of MREL, prior to setting the end-state MRELs. In doing so, BoE will have regard to any intervening changes in the UK regulatory framework, due to the revision of the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive and the Capital Requirements Regulation as well as firms’ experience in issuing liabilities to meet their interim MRELs.

Yes there’s a connection ordinarily... but metro stock doesn’t follow any normal logic.
