Its not so much the risk that worries me on this one as much as the opportunity cost. I have come to this a lot later than some on here but I went quite big 18-24 months ago and whilst I sold a bit recently to move into EUA I have a lot tied up here.

I still fully believe in the prospects here but probably didn't expect to still be waiting this long and just hoping that we are on the verge of something. Fingers crossed we are about to see something rather than another 12 months of nothing.

Has anyone rattled his cage recently with an email or anything? I have done in the past, not sure how much good it does of course.

Its amazing how long its been since a meaningful update, if it isn't because the big one is being worked on then its beyond poor.

Sadly too many people have jumped on it to sell.

Its sad when you see a 7% rise and yet that only really means 1.5 points up. Shows how low we have sunk.

I am not even being optimistic here, I am just suggesting that you putting up a doomsday scenario without any reason, even choosing the day when we have our largest rise for weeks, is not very helpful or fair.

Plenty of funds that make can make you that amount but lets not get bogged down on that figure, what I said would still be true at 5%.

It is about the warm and fuzzy feeling.

If you have a large chunk of money you can put it to work for you far better than clearing the mortgage.

For example take that chunk, lets say £200k, and put it in a fund earning 8-10%. If you want you can take out the equivalent of your monthly mortgage payment each month so you still have that financial freedom but you are earning far more in interest than your mortgage is costing you.

His suggestion that no DD takes this long is just patently false.

Mortgage freedom is just for the warm and fuzzy feeling, financially its not a smart play.

Yes, your mortgage is the last thing you should pay off in the current climate as its about the cheapest debt you can get.

You would earn more money just sticking it in a tracker fund than clearing your mortgage off.
