RE: Antibody tests hint25 Aug 2021 11:57
The CEOs assessment of the opportunities in the UK for the RTC test were not fantastic
He said: "Clearly the uk is not a market where we will see a huge amount of revenue, for reasons already given and that the vaccination program has been done at such a pace" (34:30 in the presentation video)"
And in terms of getting self test approval, question 95 is particularly revealing
Q95: really?! The MHRA only approve if the DHSC needs a test? The MHRA are an independent body. How does that make any sense? Any documents to support this answer please?
The MHRA does not provide home-use approval for COVID-19 antibody tests independently from a request from the DHSC for a derogation to allow home-test use. The UK RTC cannot seek home use approval in the UK independently so it relies entirely on the UK Government requesting this – which is what they did for the 1m tests supplied for the surveillance study"
So he states as fact that the consortium can not ask for home approval, and that categorically the MHRA does not give approval of home antibody testing unless the DHSC asks for it. So If he is factually correct, then the DHSC must have asked for home approval for the Biosure test. If he is wrong, what does that say for his understanding of the uk approval processes.
Either way, He stated for several reasons that uk is not a market for the RTC-19 tests in significant volume. the £124M contract for lab based testing (test at home send to lab), and the home approval out of nowhere for the biosure test, in preference to the RTC-19 test would evidence that.
CK did say that 3 countries were imminent in July, although that turned into "soon" in the email. Abingdon didn't express the same excitement in their trading update a week ago that said
"The Company has not seen significant commercial traction with the AbC-19(TM) product to date but remains encouraged by the ongoing discussions in various overseas territories as well as the potential development of a consumer market, both within the UK and internationally, with the general public wanting to know their antibody status. Abingdon is actively working with commercial partners on securing these opportunities. "
No timelines, no imminent, no soon. And they of course are now the exclusive worldwide manufacturer of the biosure antibody test. They also have a major chip on their shoulder regarding the ABC test, still waiting for £5M, cited the RTC-19 issues as reason for making 60 people redundant. And this is the group with sole responsibility for garnering sales of it !
