It's unfair to single out the BBC for scaremongering. My local paper has had reporters going out vigilante style and pointing the finger at which businesses are still open. They seem to have added themselves to the list of essential workers.

I know this is a boring share but I have been invested here for more than 35 years and it's all ways made a nice steady gain. It's now one of 3 central pillars of my SIPP that I just forget about until retirement even after recent events. SABS has spread it's tentacles throughout Africa since the end of Apartheid and a lot of once local beers have become Castle clones. During my time in Zambia the local brew was known as Mosi. I do believe that before Zambian independence in 1964 it was called Castle but that was before my time. I only ever sampled Windhoek in tins when the government set up some duty free shops selling imported goods as a way to raise foreign exchange. The tins were really useful when going into the bush fishing but generally the Mosi was much preferred.

All this talk of sediment in casks makes me think back to my 16 years of drinking beer in Zambia. One brewery for the whole of the Northern part of the country making one type of beer sold only in bottles. During the frequent beer shortages we would sit at the bar sharing a tea strainer trying to filter out the white sediment. Then after a 2 week shutdown when some expatriate engineers carried out a plant overhaul the beer was crystal clear but stunk of diesel for the next 2 weeks. Sediment was not the only contaminant found in the beer There were stories of people finding leaves, tooth brushes and even a finger. The finger I'm sure that was urban legend, the others not. Despite all this I still regard it as the finest beer I have ever drunk.

Mine too are in a SIPP. I was told once that Greene King would not give discount vouchers to SIPP share holders because of some tax issue but my SIPP provider (HL) disputed this and I subsequently received them.
