Need to explain my investment philosophy in order to reply.
It tends to be both simplistic and macro. Against all the advice in investment books I bought, about 30 years ago some very illiquid shares in an offshore market , most paying fair divs. The ( untouched till now ) returns on these investments have averaged + 15% annually in £ terms even after some currency depreciation . Recently after the Brexit fiasco they got a virtually 25 % eye watering overnight shot in the arm.
The above investment was macro because I felt that I could let it roll for a long time ,and simplistic because I felt that the divs re- invested would produce a good return.
Continuing the above theme it is my sincere belief that despite the threat of a rise in US. rates and inflation, that our government will continue to conspire with the BOE to keep rates at unreasonably low levels . I have stated my reasons for this belief previously , but there main concern will be to protect the oh so important housing market and the myriad indebted " consumers ".
As a result of the above government folly the " market " should gradually re rate strong div payers like LGEN & SL. These shares IMO have a lot further to go.
With regards to super markets i reckon there will be no let up for the tough times so unless they fall to ludicrous levels I am avoiding.
