I would be most disturbed if GSK dividends were not in place, that would leave investors subjected to company share buy backs that have really destroyed a lot of companys during the last year.

I am far from happy on the Separation of GSK CHC , due to its costs, and would prefer to see GSK CHC done as a IPO on the NYSE, its not that hard and would be far more beneficial to shareholders

That said, if its found of misleading of illegal activity to raise capital then SEC penalty's are very harsh.

South Africa will suspend use of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 shot in its vaccination programme after data showed it gave minimal protection against mild to moderate infection caused by the country's dominant coronavirus variant.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said on Sunday the government would await advice from scientists on how best to proceed, after disappointing results in a trial conducted by the University of the Witwatersrand.

The government had intended to roll the AstraZeneca shot out to healthcare workers soon, after receiving 1 million doses produced by the Serum Institute of India on Monday.

Instead, it will offer vaccines developed by Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer in the coming weeks while experts consider how the AstraZeneca shot can be deployed.

"What does that mean for our vaccination programme which we said will start in February? The answer is it will proceed," Mkhize told an online news briefing.

"From next week for the next four weeks we expect that there will be J&J vaccines, there will be Pfizer vaccines. So what will be available to the health workers will be those vaccines."

"The AstraZeneca vaccine will remain with us ... up until the scientists give us clear indications as to what we need to do," he added.

If the Journalist/writer had done any research before penning or typing it he would have known some key facts.
VIR had concentrated its R/D on Hepatitis /HIV and other infectious disease for over 3 years.
Its big backer was the Gates Foundation , due to VIR R/D on HIV, and if anyone like the Times Journo of the article had known how the Gates Foundation looks and invest in key Infectious disease areas, he would know a little more.

The Gates foundation work can be seen for those who bother look, and example is CVAC Curevac, which the Gates Foundation was a early investor in CVAC research.

GSK joined the VIR party late, and actually paid a premium for the shares they acquired which was initially 5.69% at $37.70, but could have take up its listing price of $20.00, but suspect the GSK board needed more convincing by Hal Barron.

Hal Barron work with the Gates Foundation is well known, and the Gates Foundation endowment trust is quiet big at $65 billion, so, Hal Barron is key and as been to a few companys.

I have not trashed the company, but have constantly promoted its JV with CVAC and VIR to name 2

What I dont do is pussy foot around the failure of GSK board to meet the likes of Credit Suisse attacks on GSK , I am not thrilled with Emma Answers on the conference call, and why she and the board even gave Jo Walton of CS airtime is beyond comphrension

I am conversant with Tesaro, knowing when Zejula was first discovered on the bench before it got to Tesaro andwent into trails on patients.
Ms Walmsley as made an excuse here, as just the UK patients with Advanced OC ,which Zejula really does work well, she fails on all levels.

I have seen this before with Bortezomib VELCADE in the UK, why these treatmenst take decades to develop, the patients who undergo clinical trails with them and May 2003 FDA approved, yet the UK waited 4 years and only agreed it and pay for it in patients it helped.

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) today announced the closing of its joint venture with GlaxoSmithKline plc (NYSE: GSK) to combine the parties’ respective consumer healthcare businesses to create the world’s largest over-the-counter (OTC) business with robust iconic brands. As previously announced, under the terms of the transaction, Pfizer owns a 32% equity stake in the joint venture and GSK owns 68%. The combined business, which will operate globally as GSK Consumer Healthcare, will be led by CEO Brian McNamara.

GSK intends to separate the joint venture as an independent company via a demerger of its equity interest to its shareholders and a listing of the joint venture on the UK equity market. GSK will have the sole right to decide whether and when to initiate a separation and listing for a period of five years following the closing. GSK may also sell all or part of its stake in the joint venture in a contemporaneous IPO.

Should a separation and listing occur during the first five years after closing, Pfizer has the option to participate through the distribution of its equity interest in the joint venture to its shareholders or the sale of its equity interest in a contemporaneous IPO. After the fifth anniversary of the closing, both GSK and Pfizer will have the right to decide whether and when to initiate a separation and public listing of the joint venture.

What you highlighted on Mid term etc is good, but where I am struggling is the fact we have gone up in costs to separate the Consumer Health Side.
This was said to going to cost $500 million to $750 Million. Todate no explanation and worse is the fact that it brings in revenue that GSK need even in its present format.

the separation was down to be completed in 5 years starting from 2019, so we are two years in .
GSK CHC employs 25000 ppl, that is 20% of the work force, but does it equal more or less than 20% profits.

Tesaro cost £ 4 billion, yet Emma Walmsley at no time put pressure on NICE the UK government body to approve its use , but the EU did 5 months earlier.
Emma walmsley said Zejula disappointed in 2020, something that took my breath away, considering who complete failure to get the treatment for patients in the UK.

Sterling is 10% stronger V the dollar than it was in December 2018, but 17% lower still V the dollar prior to the EU vote.

First GSK seems to have floundered into the area of not making it clear about the successes they have had in the last year.

Corp Investor Relations is woeful in responding and seems to even lack people who know what GSK as in its armamentarium
Its failure to even produce anything on its work with Sergenics, is in my opinion not acceptable.
It did little to promote its JV and investment in Curevac, despite all the work put in by Hal Barron, the same applies to VIR Biotech.

This is a genuine criticism of GSK., and there is more detail needed on where GSK and Medicago stand on the vaccine development for Covid 19.

I can see how certain board members, non ex directors benefit from the SP dropping , as can be seen last week on the SP fall. There as been no AZN trails in the countries where the variants appear, and the variants being classed as South Africa or Brazil, still do not hold up to scrutiny in the purest context.

If you have ever been involved in clinical trails you will know how the efficacy rate is worked out, but to work it out, you must have a broad range of people from age 16 to age 80.

I do not subscribe to any vaccine being the golden fleece, and when its efficacy is effected from its clinical trail data and approval, it means its not as effective as stated is still correct, as any variant and mutations that escape the vaccine does mean the vaccine is not working as stated at outset.

Its important that data on clinical trials is of substantive numbers, at least 30,000, pref 45,0000 and all ages and ethnicity of people.

The 484 mutation in 117 , the vaccines are not show to be as efficient in combating it.

If you understood the mutations and variants, but you do not.
1351 AZN, Novavax, JJ,, Morderna, Biontech, Sputnick , all failed , even in 484, they failed, not totally, but still failed.
you will also have to go back and see how AZN efficacy is 62%, its trails in the USA are still not complete, it does not mean they fail in totality, it means they can not protect against certain strains, and especially those that the vaccines were never tialed in.
I do not intend to keep answering questions or read publications that dont have all the fatcs when put out

We all want the best outcome, and that is now showing as the UK Gov is switching its focus to mRNA.

Shame as when you publish all the data , everyone is on the same page. Each country as its own regs on what its Medical Authority approves, and being respectful of every country decision is what counts.

I increased my position on CVAC last week at $84.78.
I did so because the SP was trading at $103,00 but dropped back to 98 when they said they would capital raise at a discount of 7% $90
The SP traded at $84.16 on Jan 28, which i saw as a Good buying opp, it was not hard the 5 million shares they offered at $90, were snapped up .
Closing SP of CVAC today was $123.20 at 16.16 pm
