The EU have been widely criticised in recent months for their failure to generate much joint approach to the CV-19 crisis. Maybe this is a bit of 'showboating' and little more. However, if they really have Euro 7.4 billion at hand I can help them with about Euro 50,000,000 of it - would be much appreciated at a small Nottingham BioTech Company I know !

I doubt it would be possible to spend Euro 7.4 billion on CV-19 research anyway - not that much talent around. But they can spend the rest on manufacturing Lindy's vaccine if they like - errrr - when she's finished that is. GLA

I'm sorry to say there is NO sign at all of the coordinated media response mentioned by CH to C7 (atm). Just ProActive and a few scraps in Trade media. That is, apart from the David Evans helpful intervention which gave us the Times article, in which unfortunately Scancell's name did not appear, plus the mirror image, a brief mention. Par for the SCLP course.

Now, ever to look on the bright side as I do, does this actually lend any credence to the C7 theory that funding was thereabouts already on 24/4 ? Well maybe - but only because I cannot conceive that even Scancell themselves, could have achieved as LITTLE publicity as this, if they had been trying at all. So maybe, Scancell don't need the Publicity because . . . We'll see.

An interesting bar chart half way down this DT link - starts with late mask wearing Spain 374, Italy 329, down to Germany 26 (deaths per million) then early mask wearing Czech 13, S Korea 4 and Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong 1. Of course other factors are at work but now even BJ's blithering Committee are moving towards it - who'll believe them now.

Hi that link was posted on May 1st - it's just another ProActive bash. Some of the data about trials inside the link is well out of date. After that excellent 'Times' article Saturday I was disappointed to see Scancell missing from the 'Sundays'. Never mind - a bit of buzz around - let's hope for a good week to come.

Over a quiet beer the other eve, my Danish Pal showed me comments purported to come from Tasuku Honjo. In the 'FAKE' piece, Honjo was talking about having worked for years in THAT Wuhan Lab and said he was now unable to contact any of the Scientists he knew there before ???? Honjo also made comments about the virus and temperature also jarred. FAKE indeed.

Many weeks ago I posted this deeply heartfelt view on a non-SCLP Forum : "Governments are there to govern and Scientists are there to explore/present science, be it say epidemiology or 'modelling'. It seems to me that in resorting to the cover of, 'we've been following the Science at all times' and 'we've been guided by the Science', the Johnson Govt. have in effect absconded from their duty to apply their own foresight, observances of events elsewhere and what we might call, 'common sense'. Of course, the advice of Scientists is one vital factor in any decision, but it's for the Govt. to pick up and run with the mantle of responsibility for the decision."

VERY encouraging to see Covid-19 deaths in Italy, Spain and France coming down but the UK has some way to go - though comparability is difficult, it looks possible that the UK will top the death toll in Europe, which is quite shocking in view of the 'foresights' that had been available.

So as the UK continues in it's horrors, I wonder if someone might consider shutting the borders at LHR etc. And start wearing facemasks - in this DT piece April 28th, there's a bar chart halfway down that makes a bold point about 'severity of outbreaks and use of facemarks'. Surely the addition of centres at Cardiff, Oxford and Northwood to Nottingham would have been worthy of an RNS? Now BJ tells us we are around the peak of the C-19 pandemic, there are mutterings about the the NHS being able to resume wider treatments so let's hope the trial will be able to commence without another long delay.

Not forgetting a firm expectation that we will be informed when the first Patient is dosed.

For me this was the most exciting news of the day - Scancell have (presumably) got the local Health Authorities to back the provision of Keytruda in 3 more locations and at this time, that ranks as quite an achievement.
