One of the American Presidents said that you can fool ALL of the people some of the time BUT you cannot fool them all ALL OF THE TIME. Our boyo's in the "Westminster Bubble" and the ones in the City really do live in another reality - It is already changing before their eyes - Asda/Sainsbury being an example - BT being another - and then there is the health service and local government. The signs are there and our boys think the way forward is to paddle their own canoe and to hell with the rest. They cannot continue to devalue the currency and hope for the best.

I recall from somewhere, that you do not even have to buy the shares and hold them, it is possible to "borrow" them by placing a forward order or something all of which is legal and honest contributing to the smooth operation of "an orderly market" - YEH RIGHT. Give your broker a ring in the morning - see how many shares you can borrow.

Thanks Martin - but you have to admit that I do go on about it - then saying that, I go and miss the vital ingredient which I should included. Money from manipulation is made as we all know, by pumping and dumping - buying a ton of shares crashing them and then buying back in before the dust settles. They tell us that they use "algorithms," Radar calls it manipulation and then there others who call it "Churning" or Radar's favourite or was it Ranger4 "Tree Shake". What gets me is that this behaviour is just plain blatant. And now we are told today that the government are only able to support growth of 1.4% according to the Governor,must be the very poor receipt of Taxes due to the tax allowances on the extraordinary levels of debt that are countenanced and allowed for BEFORE TAX IS PAYABLE. Martin's posting about Hedge Funds was thought provoking by which I mean - how do they get away with it - all you need is a large wad of mostly other peoples money and an ability risk ALL in the hope of gain. Shorting - selling a stack of shares in order to cause a wobble or tree shake is all that you need to make money - you have sold your shares, the value has dropped VOILA YOU HAVE MADE MONEY - easy isn't it. It is until something goes adrift, either with the auto on your computer or your actions cause a crash - then it's all gone. The actions of these funds and the vulture outfits are all about leverage into their pockets with never a thought of creating wealth and employment within a growing economy in which more people can share.It will no doubt be suggested that our friends who are rushing towards Brexit "OVER THERE" have a marvellous economy and more people in work than ever before - that is partly true but more like a Mirage than an economy - the level of individual and corporate debt within the economy requires that interest rates remain on the floor - the introduction of the "living wage" has certainly put the cat among the pigeons so far as Debenhams and Asda are concerned along with a good few others.Now with the departure of so much of the imported young labour from the continent, particularly in London where the cost of living soon persuades them that the grass is greener elsewhere. The youngsters who voted for Brexit will no doubt be planning to replace them - "because it was all the migrants that took their jobs" - what really happened was that as the economy was transformed into a "service" based economy where knowledge was required - writing your own CV only works once - life in the hospitality industry requires high standards in all it's various disciplines unless you want to work in a phone bank annoying people with PPI offers. Not sure how clear I have made myself Martin BUT I love a good rant - which is why I don't talk about our little bank that I used to be so proud of. Good luck all....

The panic is setting in amongst the tories (small C) - they are only squabbling at the moment but the signs are there for a proper hatchet job being done on Theresa - then they really will be in the fertiliser. Margaret was toppled quite unceremoniously and the "Policy Makers" - in both party's have got bins bursting with useless ideas. Corbyn's crowd are about as useful as a row of chocolate tea pots, which will probably mean an election before the end of the year, this they hope will absolve both party's from any responsibility for the eventual outcome. Just hope that Sir Vince is allowed some air time, because only he and one or two others seem to have any clue with regard to the way forward. As for the None League team up here, they have already jumped over the wall, contenting themselves with braying across it and letting the province run itself - maybe they'll send for George Osborne - he'd be right at home up here. Asda and Sainsbury's merging - and nobody will lose their job - just nipping our to switch on the landing lights for the flying pigs. There were promised to be no job losses at Cadbury's as I recall. The pool of savers money is becoming shallower as some people have no choice but to dip into their pot, when investments don't perform, dividends or profits are eaten up by management fees and sundry charges such as we have experienced. These Titans of the commercial world, Tesco et al are apparently immune to the normal pressures of business brought on by being highly geared. Nobody seems to worry about the mountains of debt that they accumulate or when they report a loss - when interest rates are on the floor and money is cheap and in the past plentiful it appears. When John Lewis are affected it is time that we all started to take notice because the strains are showing, the internet will not provide that answer every time but it will increase the pressure on margins and profits and ultimately the quality of the goods on offer. I'm going tomorrow you get a great view of the Scottish part of the mainland - for those unfamiliar with the term "Mainland" - it refers to the larger island which "suckles" this northern part of the smaller island. It's certainly different over here that's for sure - the good side is the friendly people here in Newcastle, where the Tricolour flew for Easter and nobody tore it down, the free and excellent dental treatment AND having my hair cut for a fiver by a beautiful Red haired colleen who can really cut hair well. The first disappointment I learned today - "in the interest of peace and harmony" - THE 12th will be celebrated by one hundred and twenty marching bands who will parade along the entire sea front having been assembled from many points north and across the water. Or at least it has over here - had my first experience of the NHS over here today since we registered, one tooth repaired and a broken one extracted - FREE - FREE !!! In Torquay being treated as an NHS patient by Integrated Dental Services that would have been �35 and �53 for each - wasn't even asked to sign anything. No wonder my temporary neighbour from Slovakia would not live anywhere else, free house - money in his pocket and being paid attendance allowance for his mother who also benefits. Good to see encouraging activity in our little share, but, have also noticed the slow puncture that the retail businesses have developed over there with the latest developments at Debenhams, Toys R Us and now House of Fraser. Was interested to see that the CFO of Debenhams resigned his position to take over a new position with Selfridges. No doubt if he had been successful at Debenhams he would have been invited onto the treasury team in HMG. Cheap money must be becoming very scarce from the evidence on the high streets, they are no longer being supported in order to create employment "In the Private Sector" which was always our Dave's first love. Have a look for "At home with Big Tom" - it's a twenty five minute play which will also bring you a few more reels. Certainly stirs up memories for me and I guess X4 - the saying goes - "wherever you are you'll meet an Irish man" these days around Cricklewood and Harlesden you'd have some problem, they seem all to be gone. I found an item on U Tube about Big Tom which you might enjoy - an RTE programme which visits his home in Castleblayney and is followed by a duet with Margo. He was indeed an original - famous and successful whilst being modest and gentle - none of the modern SLEB stuff with him or his boys - proper Irish lads who always gave us a great night as well as being fine musicians. They should have a few of those men and girls working for our little bank now - just received my interest statement and am rejoiced to report that they have earned for me .10cents over the last twelve months on the 1500 that I left with them - "Creative accounting or what !!"

Yes Radar the wind here is something else - it's blown out our boiler three times up to now - we are still chasing property here, which is really quite scarce. Bit like the profits that some our very highly geared hopefuls like Debenhams and House of Fraser et al, are failing to make. No freehold asset - paying high rents - and paying the "living wage" whilst trying to compete with a SINGLE STOCK CENTRE which is achieving, most probably, a higher stock turn from better monitored stock movements. The asset strippers made their money in the good times, when they sold off freeholds to the institutions and did wonderful things with their employees pension funds. The institutions must wish now that they had never seen them, as will be the case when the present U. S. vultures having finished destroying Avoca Woolen Mills. I am just amazed that they are still able to get away with it - when their tactics are so blatant. Still, at least we now have fine weather here at last and the primroses are in bloom, had a very pleasant visit yesterday to the Castlewellan Arboretum and gardens. Good luck all.

Died on Sunday aged 81 - many a good night was had - thanks to him. He was a good golfer too,played with him twice in the seventies at Blockrock GC Dundalk. A gentle fellow - may he rest in peace, his life was well lived. Good luck all. God this place is windy.

Have scanned the paper again and cannot find a reference to quantified redundancies, nor any reference to our new leader cutting a swathe through the current management - but I'm quite sure she will - if she wants this pony to trot again.
