I sold out of AFC to put money here because of the following;
Ammonia production in Europe faces significant challenges
Ammonia Production an Issue in Europe?
Ammonia production in Europe faces significant challenges, particularly in meeting climate targets and maintaining competitiveness in the global market. The sector contributes to 27% of emissions from the European Union’s Emissions Trading System for the chemical sector. Despite falling gas prices, domestic production remains uncompetitive with imports, leading to production curtailments in favour of imports. The transition towards decarbonized ammonia hinges on hydrogen production pathways such as Steam Methane Reforming (SMR), SMR with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), biomass gasification, and electrolysis using renewable energy. The European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III) mandates that by 2030, 42% of the hydrogen used in industry must come from renewable sources. However, the current renewable hydrogen production capacity is minimal, and the rate of scaling up electrolyser capacity is not at pace with the 2030 targets.
I was hoping ITM would gain on trying to meet those targets.
