Cooler heads will prevail…14 Aug 2025 20:08
A last thought from me on today’s #EPP news on the request for the gas storage license application resubmission and Section 35 request for approval from DESNZ and Secretary of State.
With the MESH Project having expanded in scope to offer the potential to be the UK’s largest energy storage hub, and @energy_pathways submitting a section 35 directive for approval of the components of the MESH project not covered by the gas storage license (approximately 80% of the project) I think that the NSTA have passed the buck onto the energy policymakers: DESNZ.
With major policy changes having taken place under the Labour government, the NSTA, as just a regulatory body, perhaps didn’t want the key first approvals to be their “responsibility”. (Aside from Operatorship License in Jan 2025)
That “first approval” responsibility now lies with DESNZ and the Secretary of State and the timeline for a decision as part of the Section 35 process is 28 days.
This is just my opinion of course, but MESH fits every aspect of governmental energy policy on all fronts. And since the initial storage application submission in August 2024, the project has evolved into a huge piece of energy infrastructure, however it has also become even more compliant with policy and key regulations.
For instance now, due to the @hazergroupltd process, all emissions from the gas production/storage process are now to be used to create clean Ammonia, Green Hydrogen and high grade synthetic graphite. The MESH project has never been more efficient, environmentally friendly and beneficial to the UK energy sector and UK Economy. So the requested application resubmission compared to the original is far superior.
And far from being just a solitary “small company wanting a big license”, recent partnerships with the likes of Siemens Energy, KBR, Costain, Wood Group and Hazer, ensures EPP are not seen as such anymore.
As a longterm holder and someone who has researched every aspect of MESH thoroughly, today’s request for an application resubmission is an annoying bump in the road (one I’ve utilised to increase my holding) but certainly not the end of the story. I look forward to the Section 35 ruling in a few weeks time and when perhaps cooler, more well researched heads will prevail 👍🏻
