Authorities around the world are now looking to carry-out frequent mass testing to identify the most infectious people promptly in order to reduce infection rates and combat the coronavirus pandemic. Using the same Affimer reagents that are incorporated into its rapid coronavirus saliva test being developed with Cytiva, Avacta has developed in-house a high performance ELISA laboratory test to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Avacta will make the ELISA test available as a kit so that researchers globally can use it in their own laboratories to support research into the coronavirus.
The Affimer-based ELISA test is capable of detecting the coronavirus spike protein in laboratory samples down to very low concentrations. An evaluation of the ELISA carried out with The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine using SARS-CoV-2 virus samples shows that it can detect as little as a few thousand virus infectious units per millilitre of sample. This is typical of the levels found in infectious COVID-19 patients' saliva whether they are symptomatic or not. Highly infectious COVID-19 patients can have many thousands or millions of times more spike protein in their saliva than this.
The Affimer-based ELISA test is also highly specific to the SARS-CoV-2 virus with no cross-reactivity against other closely related coronavirus spike proteins.
Avacta remains focused on the much larger opportunity of the saliva-based coronavirus antigen rapid test that we are developing with Cytiva and which is now in the process of technology transfer to our manufacturing partners. The excellent analytical performance of the ELISA test is very encouraging with regards to the anticipated clinical performance of the rapid test and I look forward to starting the clinical validation with the first pilot batch of rapid tests as soon as possible

we know the company is developing a test and we know what stage its at. It's all in official RNS's it doesn't take a crack investigative journalist to find it it. BUT the only news agency reporting it is the Yorkshire post.

Question for the experts on the board. Can clinical validation expedited? or does it have parameters that mean it has to take a set amount of time?

I would have thought that after all that has been said the government would be helping Avacta push the LFT through clinical validation and CE marking with all the resources at their disposal in CONDOR.

Its not a secret that Avacta are developing a lateral flow test though its in the public domain, So why dont they know? or are they just saying nothing until its clinically validated and ready to go

The diagnostics business has also been working at a rapid pace towards ISO13485 accreditation, which will streamline CE marking and other regulatory approval processes.

I am immensely proud of what has been achieved by Avacta's diagnostics team. Their progress in just a few months would have been challenging under normal circumstances, but with the additional restrictions imposed by COVID-19, it has been an outstanding example of hard work, ingenuity and commitment from a world-class team.

be working with, sat next to in a stadium, theatre, plane someone who had tested negative with an Antigen test that day.

someone who had been tested positive for antibodies that day (but you had no idea if they were currently infectious with COVID)?
