Hi TheGreenFool!
Re: Metals Tailings Reprocessing...
1. Old mines were often very inefficient - e.g. about 20% of copper ever mined in the past was not extracted and sold, but left behind in tailings. There are big opportunities in copper, platinum, zinc, nickel and so on (gold, not so much).
2. Potential supply of this (previously considered worthless) material is huge.
3. Modern high tech methods mean that the remaining metal can now be extracted efficiently from these tailings.
4. Business model = no mining costs or risk, low capex, fast payback, low production costs. In many cases, a tailings re-processer is the absolute lowest cost producer of a particular metal.
Trust me, this isn't selling Brooklyn Bridge. For a "mature" example, take a look at profitable and dividend paying Sylvania Platinum (SLP).
On another note, yes, it's true that most junior miners (producers as well as developers and explorers) are having a really hard time at the moment. That doesn't quite explain away Hummingbird's current woes all by itself, but it sure doesn't help.
