Now we can get a better overview of Nissan's announcements. Still no clues, but looks safer than Tesla in many ways. Seems to correspond to GM's supercruise, but no "hands on" driving review available yet.

Nissan have used FaceLab api, they are even mentioned in the SM placing docs from 2001, but so was everyone else.

It would be nice to pick this one up, but not raising my hopes yet.

SM work inside a car with carefully laid out alternate source IR lighting. The camera is close to the subject who is sitting in a defined place.

SM will be able to positively ID the subject quickly to see if it is one of the 5 people allowed to drive. False positives are rare and not many people will be able to sit in the drivers seat of a locked car.

Compare that to a crowd scene matching against a watch list of thousands of faces.

We have just financed for the engineers to do what they do best in our niche. Why start taking on the big boys when the is plenty of competition with years of relevant experience.

Tesla has introduced two new safety features designed to help prevent drivers from inadvertently departing their lane.

The new features – Lane Departure Avoidance and Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance – leverage Autopilot help drivers stay engaged and in their lane in order to avoid collisions.

Lane Departure Avoidance
Lane Departure Avoidance lets a driver elect to have corrective steering applied in order to keep them in their intended lane. When the feature is in use and a driver is departing a lane without their turn signal on, the car will also check to see whether a driver’s hands are on the wheel. If a driver’s hands are not detected on the wheel, the driver will receive a series of hands-on reminders and alerts, similar to the ones that our cars provide to customers who use Autopilot. If a drivers’ hands are repeatedly not detected on the wheel when Traffic Aware Cruise Control is in use, their car will gradually slow down to 15 miles below the speed limit or below the car’s set speed, and turn its hazard lights on

I am not expecting SEYE to curl up and die.

We have been dissing them over their Audi/BMW <40 mph debacle - but that will now be ancient history. How long ago will Audi have pulled that plug? It is common knowledge for us now (since CES 2019?) as featureless A8s and neutered BMWs come to market, but may have actually happened 12/18+ months ago.

Moore's law etc will have an impact. That is means that the products in the following model year could have worked, I still expect that we will get the lion's share.

Baxter, the lack of fleet numbers on the interface is a coq-up, not a conspiracy.

We were never supposed to know they were there - it would have been a change to the interface to support future development to the website that never happened. We know there is a vacancy for a developer (I believe the closing date is around now) so when it broke, they fixed what they needed to to support what was actually required for the website - initially this was someones job first thing every morning to edit the file manually, now it is automated again - but only once every 12 hours.
