On the surface, for a central banker Andrew Bailey has a lot to learn. He is, only now, finding out just what his position entails, and I'm not just talking about setting base rates.
He has learnt a lesson this week (although I'm sure he knew before this week) that any comments he makes especially prior to the BOE's rate setting meetings are dissected very carefully by everyone.
A careless word even, has the power to move sentiment accordingly.
He would do well to remember that and not try and laugh it off when he gets questioned about his rhetoric.

Surely you must admit the remit is somewhat ambiguous, it covers all scenarios, such as the recent COVID actions to near zero % to the current ignoring of the so-called 'transitory' spike in CPI.
He's just following the FED quoting employment data, all this about the effects of the end of furlough is a misleading white elephant.
Outsiders or not lti, people on a committee can be easily swayed especially if some figures are withheld.
There is always a case for the narrative and it's easier to follow, but hey, you have your opinion and I have mine. When it comes down to it yours will win because it's the official one.
But you can't deny Bailey hasn't come out of this too well with his comments last week. He is the spokesman and ultimately responsible, we may not have heard the last of this yet, but a correct reply from the BOE guvonor to questions must be correct, mustn't they?

Everyone knows there has to be dialogue between the BOE and the government of the day, but if you believe there is no collusion between the two you are pretty naive.
It's even in their remit, (support government objectives). Doesn't sound particularly independent to me, but of course others will disagree.

It is what it is, time to move on, which is exactly what they both want.

MVarawa, I agree with everything you say regarding directors, there never has been any loyalty in business, certainly not by those in charge.
My comment was 'off the cuff' about a two way loyalty. When you buy a part of a business you naturally want it to well, surely no-one is loyal to that share forever.

Yes, trying to judge the top is the same as the lowest entry point.
History tells us there will be an alignment sometime but whether it's sudden or gradual who knows.
I'm still in, not fully (never have been) but hopefull of more returns before the 'historic' inevitable.

Some time ago I read that the DOW was good for 40,000 before any thoughts of a downturn or correction.
I know it's only a view but I thought at that time, by that yardstick the FTSE should be good for 35,000.

Introducing irrelevant data to try and justify otherwise, just clouds the issue.

Saying that when BEM's SP was 70p, iron ore was at an all time high, has no relevance at all.
If the two were connected, then with the recent spike in iron ore, (which was far in excess of 2011 prices), why didn't BEM's SP respond accordingly?
I'll tell you why, because the price of iron ore is meaningless to BEM's SP.
You can prevaricate all you want but check the historic prices, they can't be argued.

Quite agree, but there was no "hopefully" in my reality check, it was a simple but true "we are not a producer" hence no correlation between iron ore price and our SP.
