It looks like PEBI have reduced most of their other investments including Arrowhead but as you've suggested buying Magna, will have exposure to them anyway. Holding about half as much SUMM now. Interested to know more about Magna, not sure what to make of PEBI having over 50% cash invested there. There is increased risk with having more of PEBI's eggs in the same basket which might explain the reaction to the update. That and the minor drop in NAV from 17p to just shy of 16p. Do you have a link to request the newsletter? Would really like to know more about this new fund PEBI have £2.75m invested in.

I think people are just taking profits. The gold price has been quite stable recently and closed up on Friday at a monthly high. Next set of quarterly results are due in February but they should be positive as Amara are very profitable with gold trading around $1250/oz. MWA rose well after their recent update despite their costs being around $1100/oz. Looking for a bounce around 13.5p

Thanks for sharing your calculations. Have you factored SUMM's rise this morning - £965k I make it. They are trading above 12p resistance now but it has been slow there and PLE this quarter. Also Arrowhead is trading at $13 today, it's highest all year which equates to share value of £1.25m Hopefully Jim's team sold some PLE and SUMM whilst they were riding high at 18p+ and reinvested elsewhere. I think the NAV will be around 17-18p (£6m) based on their previous quarterly increases and assuming they have altered their positions, consolidating the poor performers and investing more in those trending up.

The situation in Zimbabwe and also the unrest in the Central African Republic are probably deterring investors here. I was invested a few months ago when the price of platinum was above $1450 - AQP rose to around 46-47p if I remember correctly and have fallen as the platinum spot price has dropped. It bottomed in December at around $1325 and has risen sharply since but that doesn't make this a strong investment case. The average price in this time is $1400 according to Johnson Matthey charts. This will be reflected in weaker quarterly update. AQP, SLP and JLP are all suffering because of low commodity prices and civil unrest in the countries of operation

Well the placing numbers are in and at 1.975 per share it's not a bad deal for shareholders. Just shy of £2m ($3.15m). There was good money to be made late last year in the run up to the resource upgrade, but there are a number of uncertainties to consider with this investment. If you compare it to where Amara are now and how they are changing their fortunes around I would say HMB still have the toughest period ahead of them, which will involve further placings and the draw down of loans. The strategic update refers to $580/oz LOM costs which would be remarkable and put HMB on a different pegging to the gold price than now with it's current $1000/oz+ costs. AMA are transitioning to lower cost production and have been since Q3 2013 which is perhaps why they are outperforming most of the junior producers.

Have sold a few for 16.25 only for the bid to move up. Thanks to my broker for another wrong call, worth every penny!

Brokerage Peel Hunt increase its risked-net asset value to 27p per share (from 21p) and net asset value to 56p (from 31p). This gives an indication of the type of upside which should be on offer on some easing of the current dire conditions for the sector.

Vegas is right, for instance Arrowhead (ARWR on the NASDAQ) is up 414% in the past six months. We do hold a sizable chunk of PLE and SUMM, I'm invested in the former and also in PEBI. Really hoping this will make up for some awful losses in JLP, BLVN and RRR. If anyone is interested in gold producers that are doing well check out Amara. Atb

Yes I think you're correct Andrew, he appeared on Question Time recently when it was held in South Africa (following Mandela's passing). Perhaps he does provide contacts, encourage dialogue with the relevant authorities etc because of his government ties. I wonder if there he has links with one or two members of the BOD going back to his school/college days? Would be interesting to have a conversation with him and how he originally became involved with Amara. Hopefully a Q413 update coming in the next 2-3 weeks. Hi stocklancer, like you I'm sat on losses in gold stocks purchased earlier in the year. I think scyther tipped this in the summer but its only now showing signs of a recovery despite gold being near year lows. This must be because of the improving fundamentals - switching to Sega production and also the reduced risk since absorbing Amlib. The only risk in the immediate future is if gold falls below $1200/oz imo

Very strong afternoon trading, didn't expect to see 15p being paid with gold below $1200/oz but Amara's fortunes are changing :)

255k worth of shares at 12p is roughly £31,000. A small price to pay considering the scale of the Amlib deal and no broker fees. Credit to Geoff Stanley for orchestrating the introductions. Not sure what Peter Hain is bringing to the board other than furthering his own interests. Looking forward to seeing how the economic studies for Yaoure come out early next year.
