RE: hydrogen12 Apr 2023 16:25
I found the articles misleading and biased. They talk of electricity from renewable sources. How much electricity in the World comes from renewable? Very, very little. Of course, this will get better with time. The major disadvantage at the moment with FCEV is cost. In a car, it is a significant proportion, and out of the reach of the majority of car users. The more expensive marques have FCEV since the cost of the FC is proportionally less. The major advantage of FC in cars is distance. The FC wins hands down. However, when we get to LCV, HGV, trains, boats, ships, even aircraft, the FC again wins hands down. The article again states H2 from renewable sources. At moment the vast majority of H2 is from fossil fuel. Splitting water is the most effective method of H2 production, with a vast raw material source, including sea water. Electrolysis plants under construction now, and those already in use, have their own associated 'green' electricity, either wind, or solar. Spain has recently discovered a vast underground H2 reservoir, but would have a C footprint in construction ( as do wind and solar), and an ongoing footprint in recovery. What is not debatable, is the urgent need to stop dependence on FF, for 3 reasons. Global warming, clean air to breath, and finally, to stop the World being held economically hostage by a few cartel member countries, particularly Arab countries.
Lord Bamford had a scathing attack on the PM recently on the Govts indifference to H2 in the economy. I read the article on Google News, shouldn't be too hard to find.
For those who take offence at my expression 'not debatable', they will say, 'the Jury is still out' on climate change causes. I only have one question, 'what if you are wrong'. The answer to that is large tracts of or Planet becoming uninhabitable. A big price to pay for a mistake. If GW is not a greenhouse gas event, it is still a win situation. Our air is clean to breath, with no particulate carcinogens, and breathing problems decimated, and OPEC's influence is diminished to the point of being irrelevant.
