CAE has won a series of aviation training contracts valued at more than C$250 million with airlines and business aircraft operators worldwide. The contracts include a number of cadet-to-captain training programs and crew resourcing services.

I keep reading it & wonder if its with or without the likes of Toyota North america, American honda, Suburu of america, Hyundai-Kia, VW group of America etc etc? Or just the major 3 meant?

In reality we are 6-12 months behind where we should be atm due to Covid, so i think your timings spot on.

Its just how much revenue is looking possible from 2023-2025 onwards to tempt a buyer out of the woods. The only bonus is work & development been going on behind the scenes, without the cars hitting the roads as quick. Thats meant our heads aren't above the parapet to get noticed.

That means we may just stay in stealth mode just long enough to hit the jackpot before bought imo.

Level 2+ will be around for a long time. Its all about the driver being in control. Which will be great for us.

Why the BMW iX isn't ready for level 3 autonomous driving

Back in 2018, BMW showed the iNext concept car and told us when the real thing launched in 2021 it would be ready for ‘level 3 autonomous driving’. Well, it has launched, as the iX. But the autonomous driving (AD) remains a mirage.

BMW isn’t ready. It joins the ranks of carmakers that promised AD by now. Tesla, Nissan, Mercedes, Audi… none of these high-profile AD cheerleaders have anything for sale.

I asked BMW’s boss of R&D, Frank Weber, why not. “With level 3, the driver gives responsibility to the vehicle. We have to type-approve a vehicle that has done 700 million kilometres of testing. You have to prove you are at or better than a human driver’s safety.”

That testing takes a very long time, he says. But surely that’s no surprise. So why did they over-promise?

“It’s still happening. But level 3 is competing against more and more capable level 2+ systems [where the driver is still responsible]. There is a huge technical step between level 2+ and level 3.”

Weber, like all engineers in the field, agrees it’s much too hard at the moment to have autonomous drive in towns. Speeds are slow but the car has to make its way among traffic from all directions, and pedestrians and crazed Deliverooists. “I never said we could do that,” he says.

“The industry and legislators are learning. Next year we will launch level 3 capability. But we need clear regulator framework. In the EU, a car can only drive at level 3 below 60km/h (38mph).”

Hmmmm. It’ll only work at those low speeds. But you can activate it only on high-speed roads: dual-carriageways and motorways. It’s hard to see the point. Except as a baby step into some distant future.

I agree! I think they must be as frustrated as us LTH. When your working with all the companies but cant say anything it must drive Paul crazy at times.

Yet again more patience needed. We know all these models etc are coming and at some point the NDAs will allow SEE to declare.

In reality 2022 was always the year for Auto and every month that goes by is getting closer. Once the newsflow starts iam sure it will be more regular as more and more models are on the roads and in the showrooms.

The clock is ticking, so worth having nibbles at the current SP......

Interesting to see similar to Super cruise. This is the RNS iam hoping for at some point.

Commercial buyers will be among the fastest adopters of electric pickup trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning that will go on sale next year, according to industry analysts.

That’s because electric trucks lend themselves to the driving patterns of light and medium commercial vehicles, in that they often drive specific routes or hub routes with a return to base for long periods to allow for charging, said Mike Ramsey, the automotive and smart mobility analyst at Gartner Inc.

The F-150, with an existing large base of commercial users, will be popular, he said.

I wrote some very enthusiastic articles about the Ford F-150 Lightning right after its reveal, and also interviewed Ford’s head of electric vehicles about the truck. More recently, I wrote about one potential Achilles heel (though, feedback from readers tells me it may be more of a normal heel than an Achilles heel).
