I tell a lie. Our chair is on £441k - what a bargain…not!

@Franalex you’re not wrong. Applied Nutrition’s chairman is on £85000 a year and delivering stellar performance whereas our own good Lord is on £500k and destroying shareholder value on a monumental scale.

Once again Applied Nutrition showing THG a clean pair of heels. The THG Board really needs to take a cold hard look at itself. APN is making money hand over fist whilst we continue to struggle and whinge about whey protein prices. It’s a directly comparable business but the comparison is not exactly flattering for THG nutrition. I’d say the Board ought to be embarrassed and ashamed but I think they are incapable of either.

The only value he has created is for himself. As a previous post of mine demonstrated he is SERIOUSLY overpaid compared to other FTSE250 chairmen. Even more disgraceful that he continues to take the wonga but the shareholders value is being relentlessly destroyed. The whole set up stinks to high heaven. I’m tempted to turn up at the AGM just to check the man has a pulse.

I’ll not be alarmed if they come and save us from the relentless destruction of shareholder value here. I’ll be cheering them from the rooftops.

Can someone cut and paste what Neil has posted as I don’t have a LinkedIn account. I’m curious what pearls of wisdom he’s been spreading.

The bad news is that the Chairman and Board are seeking re-election at the AGM.

It’ll be fine - we have one of the highest paid Chairmen in the FTSE250. He’s on the case. Well worth every penny.

Let’s hope they’re selling it at a profit for once. All these “doors” they talk about opening are only any good if they actually turn a profit. We know that the placing of product in uk supermarkets isn’t making any money and that Matt has decided to sacrifice margins to encourage customer loyalty. But we need to start actually making some profit. I think the share price has continued to drift downwards, despite the recent trading update showing increased turnover, because there was no change to forward guidance - pointing to perhaps margin sacrifice yet again in the pursuit of turnover over profits. This is the crux of the THG problem.

@Hypehero fortunately what you’ve said is not rocket science and any decent business leader would be doing those things already. Unfortunately Matt isn’t one to listen to the advice of others as he thinks he’s the messiah. The hangers on around him are just fanboys. This company has massive potential and even with Matt at the helm I believe the share price has growth in it but I simply don’t believe that Matt is the man to take it to its full potential.

They know that a profitable business is worth more than a perennially loss making one.

Would have been better if the guidance had been upgraded. It’s simply been reiterated.

A quick google search seems to indicate that the HMRC can appeal directly to the Court of Appeal if the Upper Tribunal refuses an appeal. This only happens though for “reasons of exceptional public interest” which I doubt could be argued here. HMRC has 28 days to decide whether to go directly to Court of Appeal.

Who will Matt be able to blame for share price underperformance once the bogey men shorts have gone. There’ll be nowhere to hide his own culpability.

And finally, Charles Allen is also chairman of Balfour Beatty a FTSE 100 company with a market cap of over £3.5bn. His salary there for 2025 was £329k. So he’s earning significantly more at little old THG. Food for thought indeed.

For FTSE 100 companies you may be interested to know that the median chairman remuneration is £466k. These companies are massively larger and more complex than THG but our beloved chairman is earning almost the median remuneration for a FTSE100 company. I’d love to see the benchmarking analysis that our Remuneration Committee have done to justify this exorbitant level.

Willis Towers Watson have produced an analysis of Chairman’s remuneration in FTSE 250 companies for 2025. Median remuneration was £250k. Given we are one of the smaller companies in the FTSE 250 I wonder how £441k is justified for Charles Allen? It’s not like he’s helped create outstanding shareholder value during the year. Quite the opposite in fact

@Franalex it’s even worse than that I’m afraid. You’re quoting the 2024 salary of the Chairman. He got a 4% rise in 2025 taking him to £441k, despite a large part of the Group being de merged (Ingenuity) and the job of chairman becoming smaller and less complex. You couldn’t make it up. It’s an absolute disgrace.
