" BHP (imho) have it in the bag and there's no reason in trying to outbid BHP"
schlemiel, If BHP have got it in the bag why wait till October. why not make a friendly bid now as the price acceptable to BOD is not likely to be less in October than now. if anything it might be higher. Unless of course BHP are not willing to meet BOD's expectations and intend to go hostile in which there is every reason in trying to outbid them.
I am in agreement with "a bid is a bid" come on Barrick make a bid at as low a price as you like. it would then free up BHP and start a bidding war or establish that this is going to production as no bid interest .
I am sure you are right valuefinder . All the positive comments on this board are logical and must be obvious to the market. Yet the share price has dropped by 4% as I write this. That does make me nervous . So , for the time being, I have switched my spreadsheet from investing the riches to planning for breakeven scenario.
"Therefore if BHP and NCM both want to acquire Solg, why would they vote for a new board that will attempt to make them pay a higher price for it by bringing in other potential bidders?"
could it be that neither of them wants it and want to recover their investment so would be happy for a third party bid at or above what they paid. Hope i am wrong but just a thought.
"should add the obvious point that Franco deal would be signed by now if talks were not going on behind closed doors."
Sorry Coloneldrake but it has been widely reported on this board that the Franco deal is awaiting Due Diligence which has been delayed due to the pandemic. Are you implying that this is not true?
Bears and Bulls, I was puzzled like you but it was pointed out on this board that share price of 10% of market value is quite normal at this stage As to their intentions - They will either pull it off or pull us down. I cant see any other way . Many folks on this board are quite excited about a bid. Hopefully they are right.
Thanks Optimusgold. I too have learnt a lot from this and other boards on SE. What people say on the various boards is useful especially when I cant make up my mind about a holding. Just off to Cineworld board to see what people think of the buyout rumours.
Good morning Quady. if only there was some way of transferring the heat to solgold's share price we would all be that much cooler Lol.
Age is not on my side so taking to production is not good news for me. But then the bright side is that there will be more years of enjoying the chats on this board and may be opportunity to realise some of the gains as the price starts to react.
" tax in Australia (especially for higher tax payers, of which mr mather certainly is one) for capital gains is very punitive.."
Saveshare 7 there might be ways of mitigating the impact by reliefs as he is full time working director and may be of retiring age. Also Barrick could find some way of compensating him . imho nm's tax is not the problem. problem is NM who appears to be determined to take this to production
Thanks Quady for asking. yes it is my age health so far ok fingers crossed.
£3-£4 todays valuation yet the shares are trading at 26p. that is over 90% discount to value. crazy isn't it and there is talk on this board (myself included ) of accepting 80p !! I hope there is nothing fundamental that none of us has spotted and that this is only a classic case of the eyes of the beholder cant see the beauty.
