Both are affected by the Fed's actions today, but more so by currency movement and inflationary projections as you have quite rightly said before Sotolo. On this one you have quite an education. We all learn as we go along in life. I lived in London in my early years and then moved out to the Country finding from my wife's family a completely different way of looking on life. This is an education that one cannot learn at School. However all the precious metals miners make money something that cannot be said for many (perhaps most even) at the moment. Still a good place to be in the precious metals miners in my opinion. For Silver we appear year on year to be gaining large % gains per day. 10% up even on yesterday alone!!

Feel the main reason we did not move tonight up to a higher level pure currency related. The USD is still strong which is surprising considering the Stimuli roll out - and so we now for Mr Powell to reduce the power of money - regrettably he cannot really reduce the retail bank lending rate because there is none before inflation kicks in!

Well i'm in all the miners at the moment and have seen us over the years the rise and fall but one thing is for sure Hochschild is a survivor. If the precious metal prices remain at the higher level or move up further to 30-50USD an oz which they may well do, as they did 10 years ago, then what happens is the biggest World Fund Managers such as Prudential Assurance will come back in here for sure. I over the years have been served very well with HOC and feel they will be back very soon to higher levels. My old sailing boat builder buddy always told me to build a business on 10 years of good and ten of bad. The good is coming back!! All to their own. Good luck with your choices.

Hi Spindler - Last November time there was a Silver shortage i.e.not enough to even fill Coin orders, and panic in the NY vaults where they could not literally fill their paper orders. Then I saw President Biden is in favour of Solar power and found 10% of Silver produced goes straight into the panels during manufacturing. I also heard that combined with Gold it is a key feature of cleaning in the medical and scientific fields. So it has lots of Industrial usages as well as a Currency inflationary hedge. Sotolo does venture in and out, and so from his post would say he is out hoping to come back in at a cheaper price, but my feeling is to top up more where the main physical price is up by over 110% and most likely to rise as demand from industrials returns.

Hi Carv - I see the last report from Fres was saying prod. was only just down year on year (3-4%) but profits were increasing based on the Silver price. Well what happens when the price has gone up by 110% yr on yr!!! Happy days. Sections from their last report last month below :-
Fresnillo reported "attributable 2020 total silver production of 53.1 million ounces, down 2.7% from 54.6 million ounces in 2019. This includes a 3.6% drop in Silverstream production to 2.8 million ounces from 2.9 million and a 2.9% drop in other silver output to 50.3 million ounces from 51.8 million". However price now up 110% on year so I need to include :-
"Despite the miner's poor production figures, higher precious metal prices in the year carried Fresnillo to increased profit and earnings" -well we are now in a big move forward. ie. not a few % , 50m ounces at 110% increase yr in yr - YES PLEASE!

Hi Sotolo - not an optimist at all - you want to read the most recent report. 25M ounces just added from exploration at one mine and extended life expectancy for another 23 yrs is what I read. See link for encouraging increased 2021 production too.

Gold now up 13.55% year on year. Likely to spike higher very soon to follow Silver which is now up 110% up on the year!! Amazing.

This appears to have been missed by many. When our main commodity is up 110% for the year and likely to move higher we should be a very strong buy - good old J.P.Morgan. Gold is also up by 13.55% on the year, but I see a Silver shortage to be honest and if production of Solar panels is to pick up this can only help the price and shortage grow. Happy days to be in Fres and Hoc and even Centamin at the moment all of which at these prices are great buys. IMHO.

Must be a strong buy with One hundred and ten percentage rise in Silver on the year. Gold is also now moving up and is 13.55% up. I simply cannot wait for our next statement of business. With the Stimuli just being sent out I do not feel we have seen the end of the rise in sight either. Happy days!

I retried early by investing 99% of my pension outside of the Uk, and when GBP fell during Brexit I took the opportunity to retire early having the funds to do so. So holding in a foreign currency did pay me dividends, but I now expect the USD to fall, and the way the EU is going I suspect it will too and GBP will become strong so "shareminator" you could have timed it well if you hold in the UK in GBP! I do not hold physical but do hold most of the FOOTSE miners. In fact most do not own actual physical (more a paper order note) and if everyone wanted to hold it in person many feel the orders could not be met. as was the case a few months ago in the US Vaults in N.Y where I understand all of the ETF orders were struggling to be met.

Just looked as the markets open and all of the precious metals show positive gains in early trade. Fingers crossed this should continue for tomorrows opening.
I am pleased to be in here as well as my other Miners, and feel much safer here than in the Travel comps or airline shares, as Italy goes into another lockdown and the EU seem to be in a shambles with their vaccine roll out. I fear the EU will not be able to support all of their countries at this rate and I can see many going their own way soon in the fight for survival.

Centamin we know has the only current active Gold mine in Egypt and pays the Govt a handsome sharing reward. They are hardly going to stop the hand that feeds at the current time, and I do not see any other miner beating this allocation of reward unless they want to pay out more than half of profits.
Centamin will have from my experience business insurance policies that will support the Company and its shareholders in any Political or legal dispute affecting the business, and they will have access should anything blow up to the best lawyers in the business..
The UK is the biggest Investor outside of Egypt in Egypt itself. The Eyptian govt has close ties with the UK and in fact is currently encouraging even more investment from UK Cos into the region. Have you read up on Tullow Oil?
The future looks good to me.
The Gold price will fluctuate particularly when stocks have been rising but when they fall investment firms seem to rush back to the Gold ETF's. So it is very much a cyclical - but the main reason I feel it is well paced is I expect the USD to fall particularly after the Stimuli has gone out to the US economy and Gold will rise as the USD falls in real terms.

If Centamin announce in a few days as expected an improving environment (despite the Gold price down today by only 1% the precious metal is still up over 13% so far year on year. This is not a bad return at all if we can see some production back to pre-movement levels.
I also see the climate in Burkina Faso is improving and so we could see something happen there soon to take up our exploration success!

Have a look at the annual Silver chart chaps! Whatever anyone says if Silver is up by 80% on the year the analysts will soon see this for sure. I am holding strong and topping up when the price turns for today as many others are which is only down 2%. Happy days! Same for Fres to be honest in my opinion.

When anyone studies this is must be a strong buy even if production is coming back to pre-pandemic levels an 80% rise year in year.

Cairn will have business insurance's to help support and take control of actions to recover amounts due in the conduct of their business. Including going after punitive bad faith awards from the international court of arbitration. Sometimes these things can take time but in time they will deliver and have access to the best lawyers in the business as this is something they will be used to. For today I am amazed why we are going down when the NYMEX RBOB Gas is up 2.81% and Brent is up 2% and where demand for longer term crude looks strong!

Talk of 3 trillions into the USA economy and it earns 3 trillion = more money can be found for further infrastructure spending later.
EU -talk to copy the USA and introduce more bond buying now and Bond rates are down. The USD dollar is down, and we have ideal conds. for the precious metals. Oh forgot to mentioned Silver is today up over 63% on the year!!!!! Glad I am in here too.

Silver today up 63.96% on the year as we speak! USD down, Bond rate down, extra stimuli in the USA and Europe coming will all helps Silver and Gold. Even if the production for the miners was less last year the profits when the price of the commodity is up over 63% should raise profits. If the production is coming back we should really fly. I am pleased to be here rather than the so called recovering travel stocks where Europe is struggling and the R rate is now over 1. Good luck.

USA Stimuli to be signed later in the week, but now agreed. USD down today (as expected). Bond rates down especially on Europe's news. Would on the balance of probabilities favour the precious metal miners. Gold up 8.65% now for the year but the Silver miners also should now recover in price quite fast when I look at my "live chart" showing the price to be 63.96% up for the year. Whether production was affected or not during the year we should see better news very soon and a recovery in price. The R rate in Italy now over 1 so would I be buying the travel stocks yet - NO!
