...an investment! =) keep the faith! this is a long term for me. in a coupla years, i hope to buy an island after selling my holdings in UNIQ. kidding.

no question about previous losses. however, UNIQ was profitable before their pan-European ambition and now that they have learned the grass isn't much greener in Europe, they are cutting back to focus on the domestic market. a lot of how UNIQ will perform will be determined by the market and the strong arm of supermarkets cutting into their profit margin. as for working capital, they are operating well within their loan margin of £24 or £27m(can't remember exact figure) out of £60m, due to expire end of 2010. definitely not too worried about UNIQ folding anytime soon. market capitalisation is only approx £10.63m when they have £18.1m cash as at 31st december 2008. that doesn't include trade receivables of £143m!!! sale of pinneys complete, marie soon(UNIQ turned around a 5 year losing business into profit but selling it) :- http://www.flex-news-food.com/pages/15340/Uniq/uniqs-marie-returns-profit-provides-challenge-nestles-maggi-france.html if UNIQ were profiting the past couple of years, we would not have had the opportunity to buy into this share at such a cheap price. also worth noting what Dinky mentioned - UNIQ is still in the midst of an overhaul/restructuring program and they were starting to see the "green shoots" of their restructuring program in 2007, until the crunch hit. what remains is at the end of the day is whether you believe UNIQ can indeed turn the business around into profitability...which is what some call

btw, i also managed to get in here last friday, with a small holding of 10,000 shares. i plan to top up but need to free up some capital(preferably from PRL). can u give jim mellon another call and ask them to hold on??!! =)

thank mate - needed your critical opinion. =) i won't contest the fact that they were badly managed previously. but the current circumstances have finally forced them to take steps to overhaul, even lowering their ambition of european expansion, which i'm sure was a hard decision. http://www.fis.com/fis/worldnews/worldnews.asp?l=e&country=&monthyear=&day=&id=31697&ndb=1&df=0 the company is headed by geoff eaton who doesn't leave much of a trail on the internet, but the chairman is ross warburton of the warburton bakery and chairman of food and drink federation(FDF). i wouldn't say this is high risk, but yeah there is a risk as with any investment...hence, the low share price! the M&S contract lowers that risk. for me, the important thing is to know steps are being taken - they were successful in turning around france into a profitable business so i believe they can do it domestically too. if u join the board of directors, i'll pull out all of my other investments and dump them here. =)

could u give me your opinion on the books of UNIQ? i know a little bit about accounting but i would appreciate an "expert" opinion....

i don't know how genuine you are but if u really are about to retire, your method of trade is very very risky and you don't seem to do your own research. word of mouth is the easiest way to burn your retirement dream away. be warned that UNIQ is not profiting. but they seem to be taking the right steps. they turned Marie in France into a profiting business but they have now put it up for sale, which is why i think it is a wasted effort but necessary, i guess. so i'm thinking if they can do it in France, why not in UK. they are pulling back to a UK focused business and scaling back on their international expansion. brokenovice.com would probably know this company best as he went for an interview with them!

yes mate, we missed that boat and couldn't catch the swine flu...and i mean the vaccine. =) now the trick is to spot the next supernova, if possible. LTInvestor, if u are hoping for short term gain, i don't think UNIQ will be the one until Steel stops dumping. perhaps then it could fly like YELL did when AXA stopped dumping. UNIQ is more for medium to long term.

good that you take macroeconomic factors into consideration! i don't hear anyone else talking about this on these boards. have u noticed how the market is ignoring this lately? imagine the coming Q2 results! shaon, u an accountant?

segro shares have also been diluted. one of my worries here is if UNIQ or any of my other investments call for a right issue for whatever reason but i don't think so and i hope not. shaon, yeah i saw the vaccine company SP jumped and i don't like to speculate(normally) so i didn't get in. always looking for companies still on the 52 week low or promising business strategies to hold as longer term investments. intangbles are what i hate on the balance sheet because u never get enough details to know how much they value what. i got a prospect at the moment, share price still below 5p but with around £5bn circa on books, most of it goodwill and intangibles!

INCH shares have been diluted so i don't think we will ever see the share price levels of what it was before the crunch. but as far as i know, UNIQ hasn't called for funds yet and their net debt as of end april was £26.7m out of a £60m facility with lloyds that was agreed in feb 2009 to be extended from march 2010 to end 2010. more cost cuts on the way too and cash raising from the sale of pinneys and possibly marie(in france) but for me, i am against the sale of marie.

sure, i have full faith in this share. have always waited for the right time to get in and was thinking the past tuesday may have been that time. the only next hope now is next monday. after the first week of may, i think most stocks will start to rise. you got the short info from L2?

the share is rising so fast!!!! argh...didn't expect it to hit 20p so quickly. i'll definitely wait for monday now or may have to give this one a miss. gutted.

i should really hangout on iii more...but i tend to stick to lse, don't know why. i'd still wait for lloyd's results on monday to hopefully take advantage of full impact, as i'm confident this share will rise closer to NAV in the long term. i'll be joining iii soon.

may will be good, i'm pretty confident of that. i've invested all my capital to be in time for may, leaving only UCP and a bit more for bank stocks in case the net loss for 2009/2010 is larger than expected. thanks for the info - much appreciated.

been watching this share for some time. i have been waiting to see the impact of lloyd's results announcement next week before buying in. should have gone in on the past tuesday's pig flu scare. i think this is a good share and i know about DLF and unitech. =) luckily, i have workmates from india!

luckily i don't have a wife! haha... oh, and i am not interested in CFC because it would take me more time to study the background of directors to see their track record, the previous people they've worked with, where the company is heading...that all takes up a lot of time! for example, when oilbarron pointed me to WHY, i checked out the company thoroughly and found out the CEO was from a nuclear background and WHY is a public works company. then the government declared 11 nuclear sites have been targeted. next 3 days, the share shot up from 7p to 40p on speculation! that was one crazy rush - i almost had a heart attack. i bought in at 15.5p and sold out at 21p because i couldn't concentrate at work....lol.

all i know about CFCs are they deplete the ozone layer. haha, sorry. just took a quick look and haven't seen the books but i normally have 3 main criterias before i start looking into a company. 1. used to be at least £1 a share(except for mining stocks) before October 2008 2. less than 20p a share because i cannot afford more as i like to buy in bulks of 10,000 and there is much more room to grow in the long term 3. current share price is still somewhere at the bottom or just a couple of pence off the bottom if it fills these 3 criterias, then i start looking into financial figures because it could be likely that the company is highly undervalued. which is when you start finding out the reasons why and it could be something simple like here, Steel dumping shares or the market just lost faith because a director stepped down or something stupid like that.
