RE: Asking Claude ai a question.28 Feb 2026 11:41
Donalb, interesting comments. Although my eyes are firmly on the prize for EG, whilst we wait for further updates I thought it prudent to explore our other assets.
Looking at the government publication, Updated 11th February 2026, Energy Security in Ireland to 2030 - Annex 2 Securing Ireland's Gas Supplies (This document supports and informs the recommendations in the Energy Security Package with regard to securing Ireland’s gas supplies).
Although it states under the heading: Indigenous Natural Gas Supply,
"3.5 Output from the Corrib gas field, Ireland’s remaining indigenous natural gas supply, is
projected to decline over the course of this decade. The Policy Statement on Petroleum
Exploration and Production in Ireland, published on 12th August 2022, reflects the policy
and legislative position of the Government on petroleum exploration and production.
The policy states that whilst no new authorisations for new exploration will be granted,
holders of existing authorisations can continue to apply to progress through the standard
licensing lifecycle stages towards a natural conclusion, which may include expiry,
relinquishment, or production. The specific legislative provisions related to this are set out
in Section 21 of the Climate Act2."
It then goes on to section 6 risk assessments "In the consultation on this review process, the accompanying analysis set out a number
of shocks that could threaten security of gas supplies, for both demand side and supply
side shocks."
Of which the first mitigation on the list in section 7 is to reopen Irish offshore for new gas exploration:
"7.2 The Department has identified the following options for addressing the security of supply risks:
a) Reopen the Irish offshore for new gas exploration
b) Underground gas storage
c) A third gas interconnector to the United Kingdom
d) A permanent onshore facility (LNG storage tanks and import capabilities)
e) An offshore Gas Emergency Reserve (a floating storage and regasification unit"
