As per usual, no dividend, and Mike wants to pay his brother 11m. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-42107736
Whilst General Ashley is a real wheeler dealer the turnover on this one seems to have plateauted and profit have fallen. Given the issues with the USD and EUR I cant see this one recovering soon unless it can widen its base beyond the UK. Failure to have done so, at scale, before the Brexit vote may have delivered is a long lasting wound. I think this one is in for troubled times.
Looking good going forward both in terms or growth and hedged against the pound
up 20% since the pound fell thank goodness I was still holding :-)
I have a most of my holdings in non GBP. NII in india is up significantly, and ANW (in Thailand) has taken a bounce. If the high street falls I think many will go beforre SPD. The biggest risk is that prices fall so low big make takes it back into personal hands.
It really depends how much further profits fall. I think dark times are ahead for the high street. Although this one doesn't look to be in a bad a position as some. Falling pound, falling profits, broker downgrades and potentially falling sales as we move into 2017. The future isn't bright. Although we were already low before the latest set of shocks. I hope Mike gets over his ego issues and focusses on business recovery.
Even when its not specific to this stock it seems to rake a tanking, overseas sourcing of stock looks like it just got more expensive domestically.
EPS is bad however ...
Mike makes money but no one else does, some shareholders are nursing 50% losses. With no prospect of a dividend. Big Mike get his bonus, revenue from the helicopter contract, luxury chalet and gives jobs to extended family members.
When you get stopped for speeding do you point at all the other motorists and tell the Police they go over the driving speed limit also?. More or less agree on trade unions.
I don’t think Rangers is the main issue here JP. Mr Ashley seems to embroiled in several ongoing ego battles. Beginning with Findel, continuing with Rangers, then the Scottish Parliamentarians, and now with Westminster. Not to mention negative media coverage. Either those above all dislike him, or the common denominator is his ego. Unfortunately the latter seems to be the issue. I appreciate you don’t want to be seen to lose any battles, however, equally you can’t expect to win them all. I suggest Mr Ashley should focus on what is important and material, instead of the trying to fight on all fronts.
I don’t materially disagree Isengaard. I think, however it depends on the stock and the sector. The whole point of a stock market is to provide funds for companies to develop, make profits and pay back the investor. Since that basic stance we all like to see some share price growth, and some of us are happy with that alone, however that is more of a gamble IMHO. I don’t mind a young company not paying a dividend, nor one in a high growth sector, however, this is a well-established stock in a traditional sector. I also think it growth period is slowing both in terms of sales and profits. So we essentially have a slowing company issuing profits warnings, and still not paying a dividend. I appreciate at the moment the share price is subdued, in part, due to bad press, which may present an opportunity, but if I was to take a punt on it, I would want the security of a dividend as well. I worry about Mike Ashley getting caught up in personal battles and ego tripping instead of sorting this stock out. It needs his teams attention instead of fighting petty corporate battles with minor companies and squabbling with MP’s. That is a real risk to this stock.
No point making profits and not paying shareholders IMHO. Anything other is missing the point of a stock market. I think the shabby treatment of small shareholders is pretty telling for this share and seems to be one of the issues subduing the share price.
Not till 2017, i dont see this one taking off until at least that date. Although im still in profit for here is hoping
He should get off lightly with this one, afterall Big Mike and Cammy are in the same tax free boat here.
Duff and Phelps are the administrators, they done the USC pre-pack admin for Big Mike, I am sure they will cut him a good deal here. Lets hope the MP's are looking.
Yip good for him, SPD is now picking fights with the media, MPs and featuring in court action. All the signs of a good well run company. Who will be next on their list ? maybe have a pop at shareholders and the LSE market just for good measure.....
Yeah, I have never heard of Flannels either, having looked at their website its pretty chavtastic lines that they do.
Good luck in your retail career Queeny. I am sure it will pay dividends ..... Unlike this share....
