I've seen Managers who are afraid of the future.

He's not one of them.

Given that PUTUP's clearly ignorant of Boardroom 'street savvy', particularly when it's got the right 'street savvy' CEO this time around, I've got a simpler answer to the lack of buybacks.

GKP don't want to buyback in the need to demonstrate enhancement of short term shareholder value.

They have a different agenda this time out.

They're defending their position against traders trying to manage the Market to MM advantage.

But two questions:-

1) If that's right, then why only $10m for buyback cancellations. It should have been more unless they are using the Sword Of Damocles over the MMs' heads without committing, but threatening it. Given their overarching AGM 10% buyback mandate;

2) Why?

'Two Planks' signing off now...just bought a house in the South of France as my second home. Literally signing off on the deal in one hour and collecting the key and fobs.

There's clearly a reason why we're not buying back under a RNS announced in October. Only one purchase of16.5k shares since then.

Why?

Has anyone got any analysis/conjecture that might help?

Really want bb response on this, because I definitely do not want to speculate on the defensive posture, and the reasons why that may be...

Here's my understanding, for what it's worth.

If the buybacks were simply a return of capital to shareholders then the price of the buybacks would be an irrelevance.

This according to other simplistic analysists.

However, a more nuanced view is that there is GKP motive in this buyback.

And I'm starting to take the view that it's to do with defensive posturing.

Clearly that's not true!

I insist on being the only 'Two Planks'!

That aside, why aren't GKP buying back shares for cancellation?

I genuinely have no clue.

But I guarantee you there's a reason.

And nobody on this bb is able make a sensible argument as to GKP's buyback motives this time around.

Certainly not me.

I bought into the self-funding, debt free model back in March 2018. Obviously post Re-Structure.

You know, the model that determines GKP’s self-funding strategy to ca. 100k bopd within six years.

Of course geo-political events over the last eighteen months have delayed that basic investment proposition.

But they haven’t derailed it.

GKP are still debt free and ambitious to pursue their debt free self-funding dream.

Quite clearly.

If GKP are wrong, then their Plan B, while no where near as profitable, works to the extent that they can sell their oil locally at prices which enable redistributions to shareholders throughout the year.

If GKP are right to persevere, and can get a resolution which safeguards their self-funding future, then that future looks very different, and the investment proposition looks very shareholder friendly for the next investment period.

Run the numbers. On the ‘old model’ the returns are startling. JH has to ensure that the next phase is at least shareholder palatable.

But either way, the key to all of this is GKP’s debt-free status…

I'm aware of MAR and its impact on listed shares in a close period.

I suppose I'm trying not to speculate as to the reason that GKP's brokers aren't buying back for cancellation...tempting though it is.

On ADVFN (stupid site with GKP SOLD signs everywhere) the speculation is rife!

I just want a better understanding as to why GKP are not engaging.

According to RNS dated 13/5/24:-

‘The Board believes that GKP’s current share price trades at a significant discount to the intrinsic value of the Shaikan Field and does not adequately reflect the near-term free cash flow generation potential from local sales…’

And the Board then engaged in a $10m buyback for cancellation.

Which it then pursued on 8/10 with another $10m buyback for cancellation initiative, this time without explanation.

Why is it that ca.3m shares at ca. £1.398 were bought back at this time (after four weeks) in the Summer buyback for cancellation, and this time out only 16.6k at £ 1.2475…a single purchase during the same four week period second time around?

What’s the reason? Why the change?

The Bot (a.k.a. PUTUP) is constrained by reference to the Bot’s view that returns of capital to shareholders are simply that. Nothing more, nothing less.

Buyback purchase prices are apparently irrelevant.

If GKP are instructing on the back of an intrinsic undervaluation assessment of the sp, as was propositioned in May, and reaffirmed in October, then why are there no cancelled shares removed for a trading month, apart from the initial 16.5k @£1.2475....

Have the brokers decided that the sp has stabilised now, and 'intrinsic value' has been established? If so, why is the sp moving inexorably North?
