At the end of a fantastic week in our home city of Belfast, we look back at a packed calendar of industry, media and political visits we facilitated to celebrate Maritime UK (MUK) Week.
On Monday, we were delighted to host representatives from the Tall Ships Youth Trust, @Shimna Integrated College and Radius Housing and provide an insight into maritime career opportunities for young locals. Later that evening we hosted a drinks reception in collaboration with Maritime UK and Northern Ireland Maritime & Offshore in the city centre, which drew together partners and collaborators from across the sector.
At the midpoint of the week, we welcomed reporters and film crews from regional and national media into our bustling Belfast yard. Here we were able to provide up-close access to all the major projects and programmes underway at the site, and the sheer volume work being delivered across our target markets – from cruise and ferry maintenance to energy and commercial projects, as well as the upgrade to facilities which is underway in preparation for the start of the FSS project.
Additionally, as sponsors for the MUK Awards, our CEO John Wood was delighted to present the Employer of the Year award to the Port of Blyth. We were immensely proud and grateful to have been shortlisted for both the Coastal Powerhouse and Future Skills awards.
On Thursday, we welcomed several MLA’s (Members of the Legislative Assembly) to our site and were able to show the breadth of work ongoing throughout our facility and demonstrate how we recognise and champion local content and suppliers in order to ensure that economic benefits of our work are retained within Northern Ireland.
We hope that all who visited and took part in the week enjoyed the hospitality of the beautiful city of Belfast and we look forward to collaborating in the future to ensure the continued growth and development of the maritime industry across the UK.
