We had a World population of 2 billion up till the 1920's. That doubled to 4 billion by the 1960's and increased to 6 billion by the turn of the century. We're now at 7 billion. The belching chimneys in the 19th and early 20th century was from a much smaller number of people. Now we are a lot cleaner but with more people.
Ice ages have occurred every 10,000 years or so. It's been 10,000 years since the last one. Maybe that's why some say we are due another ice age, I don't know. Maybe the current increase in CO2 is just preventing another ice age. The global system is too vast for us to know exactly what is going on.
We need renewables largely to ensure 7 billion plus people have enough energy in this World. A cleaner atmosphere has to be good as well as the smogs of the early 20th and 19th centuries were not pleasant and would cause respiratory problems for many people.
Electric vehicles have their place but need to be used correctly and not have electric diggers operating for 2 hours and requiring their batteries to be recharged by diesel generators over 8 hours.
