The markets are already effected by devious ways. Perfectly legal ways, but devious within the law to achieve an end for an individual or organisation. Shorting is a case in point where an individual or organisation can damage a company by perfectly legal ways in forcing down an SP. Don't think the U.K. market is quite so wonderful from a legal or moral standpoint.
The recent news on Facebook's actions up till now and companies like Cambridge Analytica are also cases in point where people are used by companies who use apparently legal methods. No, you are naive if you think everything is rosy in the U.K. financial markets. The scrutiny is mainly to satisfy the rules, not us as individuals.
Corruption comes in many forms.
