JP Morgan is the Stabilisation Manager for the HSS IPO .... so they are under contract to attempt to buy shares to support the sp in the post-IPO aftermarket, if the share price is weak. Stabilisation period runs 4th Feb to 6th March. Point being, it is not particularly good news if JP Morgan has to buy a lot of shares at this stage .....

happy just to wait and watch. i bought a chunk in the ipo, intending to hold most for a while rather than flipping.

hi george, sorry, been busy, not looked at this board for a bit, thanks for your comment. i've sold out of BG now, chunks of money in for the JL IPO, fingers crossed. i think there is decent evidence of strong institutional appetite, good management team, and they are not too directly involved in construction work as such, which i like. ..... am looking to buy back into BG sub 900 if it comes, like the stock longer term, would add again sub 850.

unless cello got their professional advice from someone like a quindell lawyer, or, perhaps worse, fund manger called Tom W.... [hollow lol]

even more irritating. company sounds a bit peeved too. no valentine's card for HMRC this year.

there is actually very little going on. volume indicated on lse site only around 1million shares traded, which hardly shows a 'spree' of any sort. it was up a ha'penny this morning, now it's down a ha'penny. big nada. ........zzzzzz.....

in thinking about who the big players are, and who are smaller players, depends also whether you are thinking about the UK market share only, or looking at global position and global resources. gives different picture. sainsbury for example, i think has mid £20s billion revenue, aldi something like 50billion euro revenue, lidl something like 65ish billion euro revenue, etc, [figures only approx, sorry!] in thinking ahead about who can grow new markets and markets, global position may matter more. s ainsbury's does well within its small niche. will that be enough in 21st C?

hottentot: "Another interesting snippit of info --it is not losing its market share to Aldi as fast as Tesco, Asda, or Morrisons are !!-" ... the issue is what happens *next*, once (/if?) tesco gets the fight on properly. shorters are hoping that the market share and margins all decline markedly for sainsburys. could also wonder what the upside scope is for sainsbury. it's already very well run. what could they do better to boost the sp? whereas with tesco, sure it's in plenty of trouble, but in a way that makes it easier to see how improvements could come for tesco,

sainsbury's is seen as a very well managed company, but operating within a sector under enormous pressure. one specific major fear is that as the much bigger tesco gets underway with its fightback against big discounters like aldi / lidl, sainsbury's will become collateral damage, squeezed out by the fight between the bigger players. sainsbury's is not particularly the target for tesco to hit, but tesco won't waste time trying to avoid sainsbury as it acts.

saw your note on sula, so popped over, but sorry, no idea mate, you want someone who's still in the city game now, or has been recently. i was in the markets professionally way back in the 1980s, we just got paid in groats and mammoth skins back then.

to flog a few tomorrow, nice rise recently, but thinking of realising some cash for john laing ipo. any kind person of a technical/charting persuasion on here can advise where they see upward resistance levels?

it looked ok to me overall. the vat thing is frankly a bit irritating, but i see no obvious reason to think that it indicates a failure likely to recur. the business isn't likely to soar or amaze, but seems to have good steady prospects, and given $ strength, i like the apparent +ve re US revenues and prospects. i added a small amount this morning, might add a little in a few days if it stays around here, but want to watchful eye on how qe froth settles first. [and also keeping some cash at hand in case the coming john laing float looks decently priced] not gonna build cello to be a large holding, but a decent little bit of small cap pep + divi in the p/f, and should still carry decent IHT advantage through business property relief.
