hi jolly, yes, i'm fine, (although a bit peeved at the extent of the fall on sula today. not a large amount in there, but a nasty % movement there after the rns, so leaves a sour taste.) as you will often spot, i'm more bullish, usually wrongly, so about 50% cash/v short date bonds. but actually a bit too much non-finance work around recently, so my eye off the boards a little, too many risky people around needing an eye kept on them instead. strange times we live in.

(try to consider both best and worst case scenarios .... how would your portfolio do if there was a 'hard landing' in the chinese property market?)

well, it depends how long you can wait, eh? (1 yr? 5yrs? 10?) and what else you could have been doing with the money that you have tied up in those shares. good luck. tough times in the markets overall, best to be a little cautious at the moment, perhaps.

if you own all four of rio, bhp, bg, and genl, perhaps you are a bit overexposed to commodities? depends what else you hold, besides lloyds. maybe diversify (and/or keep some cash)?

jason, i think more or less nil chance either will go under. but both can be very volatile, given changes in outlook for future global economy etc etc, and things aren't looking good at present. so no, you won't lose all your money on these, but the price swings can be nasty, and the bears have commodity stocks in their grasp atm. perhaps better to be more diversified, than too much in commodities?

no sign at all of any bounce i have set a couple of small buy-in mousetraps further down for l/t (prefer the diversification underpinning divi here to rio, tho' rio probably more in glencore sights) but seems no need to rush to add more by lifting the ask. i'll wait to get hit.

where the bottom is? added a little this morning, seems good l/t value, quality producer of quality assets. no strong view whether there is further dip down or not.

anyway, being as i am a born optimist, i bought some of these this morning, but on a long view, not trying to call a bottom in the present soggy and jittery markets.

a few more to do if it falls further.

nice end of year news for holders. it looks like my wife is now in with a good chance of getting that second-hand vacuum cleaner i'd been thinking about getting her for xmas after all. she'll be so pleased.
