As its Baltic out there, staying in having a dig around as to what Oxilio might be up to with NXP001.
It seems they have a patent pending for "Use of NK-1 antagonists for the treatment of cancer", there's not description available (yet) so its a bit of guesswork.
https://patents.google.com/patent/GB201917862D0/en?assignee=Oxilio+Ltd&sort=new
So, what is a NK-1 antagonist, it would appear that there are a number of known drugs that fall into this category and are used to mitigate emesis as a result of chemotherapy.
"Neurokinin-1 receptor (NK-1) antagonists such as aprepitant, rolapitant, casopitant, fosaprepitant, netupitant, and maropitant are effective to treat postsurgical nausea and vomiting, and cancer chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. "
The key item in the above is 'aprepitant' which is the clinical name for EMEND, which is the basis of NXP001, and which the NFX drug outperforms.
Now, the interesting bit. There has been previous research that has established a link between NK-1 receptors and Gastrointestinal Cancer (GI), specifically
https://bit.ly/2LUTFIm
"NK-1 receptor antagonists could be considered as a new generation of antitumor drugs against GI cancer.... because the drug is currently used in clinical practice for the treatment of emesis and hence the required safety for this drug has already been carried out. It seems that by increasing the number of days on which aprepitant is currently administered in clinical practice (three days), and using higher doses (because tumor cells overexpress the NK-1 receptor) than those used for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, aprepitant could be effective in the treatment of GI cancer."
So, Oxilio may be seeking to follow this path with NXP001 which has already been through human clinical trials showing bioequivalence to EMEND.
