I'd take issue with that, its inherent by the nature of the industry, whether jurisdictional, cyclical, operational etc.
Vale and Vermelho....Vale was under pressure at the time to reduce debt, victim of cyclical pressures and the Valemax timing. Selling Vale of course was just window dressing, wouldn't make a dent in their debt etc but they had to be seen to be heeding shareholders - fund managers...
Any bid needs to assign value to Vermelho. JM has indicated in the past that inbound interest has failed to do so hence undervaluing the Co.
The current backdrop (and looking forward) has changed...nickel pricing /'Greening'/EV's/energy storage/SS demand et al
Scarcity of resource has come to the fore - see recent M&A in the sector.
Whatever 'price' he had in his head 18/24 months ago as worthy of consideration by the BOD would not cut it today I'd wager (and that's without consideration of finance progress to date).
