Dark, it is a tough one, Hoc has gone up too fast but was sold down far too much - why I posted and bought more last mont at 101p, and gold is a wicked and contrary mistress always doing the opposite of what you expect. However I think th gold rise is not just because of Ukraine, it started before on the back of lowering real interest rates and soaring inflation. I agree about selling half, but I am hanging on for now; I toyed with selling some at 15% rise today and buying them back lower, but I am not really a trader. Gold may take a tumble soon but I assume it will have a go at the all time high. But of course the huge bubble in other commodities has to burst as their very rise helps create the recession which is coming. It is back to the 70’s and stagflation etc, so I can’t think of anywhere I would prefer to be than gold. Of course for Hoc to rise gold will have to rise faster than mining inflation

yes Steve, Hoc mines mostly gold and a third of its silver is hedged for all next year at $25, they hadn't reckoned on fast rising mining inflation when they fid that, which will lead to silver on that third I guess. Also overall like Centamin production has been falling and cost soaring. However unlike Cey there is no great recovery in sight. Against that the shares were truly bombed out having overfallen from the top even more than Centamin, on repetitive lousy news , so a bit of a recovery was due. Now Hoc should do as well as silver should rise faster than gold but the hedge will prevent a chunk of any benefit. But Hoc and Cey had got out of kilter

Yes bonkers, but not entirely great for us, rising inflation pushes up Pallancata costs and commensurately the silver price but not for us.. It shame all our Pallancata silver is hedged at an average below the current price; it was done to keep a small profit if silver fell further but of course our board hadn’t counted on the huge inflation. So in real terms they’ll be losing more as inflation rises however high silver goes, with Pallancata a third of our silver output approx

I reckon $2300 will do it but also depends how fast the acceleration and our results imho

Hoc is a very bouncy share, I think as it is relatively illiquid, and also more geared to the gold price with its high costs, plus it fell hugely because of the political worries, so it is feeling itchy. Essentially more people are seeing this so it shoots up on their buys, then back a bit on others profit taking, but the overall trajectory is currently up as was oversold, and it continues to be a better play on gold rising than rivals (but also the conversion) imho

Yes it could return to 200 if gold price went to 2300, and if not accompanied by a market crash lowering PE’s in a general rush to liquidity imho

Normally 20 or 25% premium,but with Cey having improving prospects I would say 150p or a bit over would do it as I would put it in an equally bombed out rival but have a third more capital in the new investment to grow.

I think it was back in June on another LSE board, don't know if it includes all LSE boards but hasn't posted anywhere here since, I see his penultimate LSE post was on EUA when he was rather disparaging about the share and its then market cap, it looks like it is now about three fold lower, he can be found over on the ADVFN boards including Tharisa and currently appears keen on Evraz for the brave

Dark I am full of hope - probably last person to ask - you are wise to remain sceptical as this has been a triumph of experience over hope. However I remain pleased I bought more, for the first time in a long while, just a few weeks ago, posted here. Hoc is now very dependent on the gold price which is a battle between between on the one hand fear over Ukraine and, I believe more important, falling real interest rates and rising inflation; and on the other the potential for Russia to sell gold, recession and falling demand. Overall the charts and fundamentals look the best they have since early 2016, but as said I am the wrong person to ask as first I often call it early, I think the timing is impossible, I was lucky with the £1.01, second as you know gold is a fickle mistress and has a way of catching one out, and third when people think it will go up is just when it goes down. As I said at the beginning I remain full of hope and am hanging onto this bucking bronco…..with grim determination!

Thank you Viable, I continue to think Tharisa is a well run and undervalued company, though who knows where Platinum group metals will go, as fear and a coming recession fight it out. Happily the market is catching up, and it is up 60% in little ove 3 months, and this week just passed its old all time high so hopefully in blue skies, somewhat making up for my Centamin losses. However my interest is entirely thanks to a most informative post here a year ago by Tiger on the Tail, sadly banned from LSE for his honesty, a bit like in Putin’s Russia. I for one miss his posts here, along with the likes of Uncertain, and other appreciated stalwarts, like Prof, who now posts so rarely.

If I read it right Snip is still a snip with only 840k oz indicated and 723koz inferred. So not even enough to replace what we are losing and take us back to where we were in annual oz? Remember Barrick sold this, also if I have it right, as running out and expensive. Could be why market isn’t more excited, even on a rising PM day, as just reminds them how we have to scrape the barrel? Hopefully rising silver and gold will take over.

I spent my life as a business journalist and cam across very few companies with as excellent communication as yours, and I generally found that companies that communicate well are better run. At the opposite end Barclays, who I first filmed with in 1984, have really changed, their communication that was great is now hopeless, not only evinced by the customer experience or stockbroking. If you look up Tharisa on Barclays research you will find the forward yield of our company - it says!!!

Yesterday a Barclays complaints officer told me I had to realise they had become a retailer and as at Sainsbury you wouldn't expect the employees to know about how financial markets work or the rules that apply etc, it says something doesn't it.

Halfpenny, gold is gold so where it is from makes little difference, if the Russians need money and lower their asking prices they will be able to sell gold. Who would have thought the Russians would raise their nuclear war footing, and gold would be back below 1900? However better than the post on the advfn Cey board “ Nuclear war would kill millions in the first week. ..but gold would rise. We gold investors could do with such a lucky break.”. Lucky…? It is been heartening to read so many decent posts here. I still believe that low real interest rates and high inflation will in the end help gold as long as Russia doesn’t/isn’t able to flood the market.

Thanks Halfpenny, Lovely chart but also depends on what gold does, Does anyone have any idea it if it will shoot up tomorrow, with the increased sanctions, or conversely if the worry will be the Russian central bank starting to sell down the huge gold warchest that it has amassed for this eventuality, with other reserves frozen abroad, as it attempts to defend the rouble. I am of course hoping the former?

Hoc won’t fall back 16% today, in my opinion, gold fell on buy on the rumour sell on the news, massive profit taking on those set up for this and a rising dollar, but it is at a very healthy £1430, the currency that counts for us that have share price and divi in sterling. I bought on Tuesday for FOMO, and a load of fundamentals, I did not sell yesterday for FOMO, I bought more and hold because Hoc has become fair value and is very geared to rising gold, I think on balance geopolitical instability and more important inflation, low real rates the economy and sentiment will lift gold and thus Hoc with many big lurches along the way.

Auson here’s hoping, so tempting to take the 16% today, esp from those I bought at 101p on Tuesday, but Hoc being relatively illiquid can go like a rocket they can go like a rocket, just as Dark Sky says, and I am loathe to miss some potential fireworks

Auson, if gold gets to 2150 I still wouldn’t expect Hoc back at 320, more like 200 as costs take account of $200 of the rise. 2350 might take us back to all time high, ever hoping…

I couldn’t buy on automated this am, so I put in an at best order when down 4% soon after 8am, it was only fulfilled just now at 147p, if you look what PGM’s are doing this am the price should be rising!

Thanks Rebess and for your memory. I am ‘conflicted’ about Julian Asange, and do not know enough, on the one hand he brought some hidden things to light, on the other he threatened Western intelligence and does not appear a very pleasant man. Perhaps sometimes it is good not to be for or against but to see both sides? (Though not in this conflict.)
And Aether Centamin currently being a high cost producer should I believe rise faster than other miners as the gold price rise will raise our profits more. Also once the next results are out, and perhaps a final knock back, things should also improve for the company lifting the price further, so all in all if gold rise a great investment imho
