Badland, I watched the commons talk this afternoon and Mr Sunak’s response to Pauline Lathams request to visit the RR plant in Derby worried me slightly. Whilst he didn’t say no, he didn’t say yes either. You would have thought that if the government was about to announce/invest tens of billions in SMR’s then he would have jumped on this chance to boost his popularity. I think he is just fobbing RR off with a few million to keep them quiet. He will recoup that money with RR supplying the DAC systems to sizewell c and any future SMR sites, just my opinion though.

Waiting for a better offer maybe?

I totally agree, wind and solar power accounts for approx 35-40% of electricity generated in the UK, I’ve mentioned before that Merseyside is looking to implement a tidal energy plant that can power 5% of UK homes. It seems to me that the renewables industry is moving at a pace and RR need to be watchful of the competition and new technologies.

An American lab have managed to generate more energy outage than energy put in during a nuclear fusion test. This could be a game changer for SMR’s, they will potentially become redundant before they are built if this is proven to be the case. The lab reports tomorrow with their findings.
