Livestock,i was hoping we would get a better steer as to how brexit was going to pan out.
With Lloyds reporting on the 20th feb it's looking very unlikely we will be any closer to knowing.If we do crash out then a £2bn buy back or higher than expected dividend wouldn't look very clever.
Any long term investor in Lloyds would be insane wishing for a "no deal WTO" or for that matter being beaten around the face with a raw frankfurter.
If WTO is that great why does Fox & Co keep going on about "Free trade deal"?

The UK grocery market is valued at £193bn in 2017,i don't believe the UK's proportion of CAP at £3.2bn has a major impact on food price.

Poor old Netherlands chipped in €378,yet were still able to pay their people a state pension equal to 100% of average weekly pay.In addition the Netherland people were able to save up a private pension pot which is 105% of GDP,UK stands at 95% of GDP.
Just proving a point,you can still have a good state pension even if you pay in 3 times what we do.

Our relaxed labour market is the main attraction plus English is still the first language of the world.

France contributes 0.428% of GDP while UK 0.699% to foreign aid.We are £5bn more generous.
Would that be enough to push up UK state pension from 29% to 75% of average weekly wage,i doubt it.

Council tax in France is 25% to 33% of UK's.

Another comparison with France and that matter the rest of the developed world is state pensions.
In France people retire on 75% of average wage while in the UK it's 29%,in fact only South Africa has a lower figure.

To make up the difference the UK government has virtually privatised pensions by enforcing everyone to have a private one,yet they say they cannot afford it and need to push up the age at which state pension commences.
Something is seriously wrong with the financing of this country when its people are forced to reduce to reduce their net disposable income.

For the record,planning is a UK function with little EU interference if any.In this case it was executed by a Tory county council(Wiltshire).

Wiltshire voted to leave the EU 54.7%.

JR,i would like to believe most people have seen through this PPI scam.
AHO was one of the architect brought in by the Tories to relieve the banks of £33.6bn to support the economy while the government was able to reduce its spending.
It's the main reason we didn't get our full dividend.IMHO

LTI,If an economy has a higher proportion of part timers it reduces the unemployment figures.We also have a higher proportion of self employed on variable hours,France 11% UK 15%

Boom,this thread did start off with comparing higher French unemployment to ours.
Both countries report those under 60% median pay level.The UK has been historically higher in the low twenties and France around 11% although it has risen in recent years to14%.It's difficult to make anything from these poverty levels apart from the obvious,we have a greater proportion of low paid.
The UK has more flexible working,hire & fire,less regulation like the US.This is good for business but it does lead to greater churn so at any one time people are not appearing on the unemployment register.If you work 1 hour in the UK your employed and the gig economy has no fixed hours.
One disadvantage to casual labour laws is the attraction it has to economic migrants.The UK government like the US government are not going to tighten labour laws.The UK is likely to loosen further when we leave because we can,which will lead to higher numbers of visa infringers merging into the relaxed labour market.
