The politics of selling off something on the cheap are hard. What if they had done another Royal Mail then take the flack for the bounce up? On the otherhand if it was another flop then they wouldn't get the rest away, so i think it will hold at this price before a gentle rise as the main aim of the exercise is to get these shares away.

Kern,i agree and will not be holding RBS for any great length of time.The early stages of Lloyds HMG sell off were quite positive,they had to get the shares away and RBS figs in Aug will probably be ok. The market has very much turned into short term gain,long term pain.

Chancerit still doesn't answer why HMG off loaded RBS today when your bright future would indicate next year would be a better option. Antonio needs to do something BOLD re the buy back.Its not to late to change tack and either go special or full on buy-back at the interims.

Got a good point there Chancer,going to move to Germany to sponge cars down,lol. Prehaps Hammond sold RBS so the Tories can say in the General election campaign in October that they are the party of lower borrowing?

I did buy RBS only because i could get them a penny cheaper than the institutions. It does make you wonder why all the rush to sell.Once Brexit had gone through next March they could have sold for �4 ea ,lol.

Wids,that looks a crazy figure to me,bit like james stating his return on shares is 25% year in year out. So lets look at the figs.These are June 2013 figs so the working labour force is bigger now. Then the population over the age of 16 was 243m and workforce employed 144m.Then deduct a further 21m in college and another 9m 16/17yr olds still at school then finally the retired 40m which gets you to around 30m. LTI,Lloyds started the year at 68p,are you assuming a special divi with the interim to achieve the 5p total return. Sorry for my previous spelling should read "sheer".

Lloyds will come good,its a 100% cert. Its just this protracted waiting period when you know you can find better value elsewhere. When the trigger is finally pulled,with the shear number of shares in circulation its not as if we will not have time to jump aboard,it would take something mega for Lloyds to gap big time.
