Chancer,i used to think your way,Barnett formula and all that.The deal in Alberta is for the province to recieve 9% of the royalties straight off for them to spend how they like. We went down the route of taking the lot then making them think we have done them a favour by handing some back,this then creates animosity within the union. As a seperate country/province the wealth was created there and the deal didn't give them any royalties,one wonders why we came up with a complex distribution formula? Enough on Alberta,worth a visit though lovely countryside and an example on how oil wealth can change an province/country.

Sales tax in Alberta is 5% while the rest of Canada is 12-15%,now imagine if Scotlands rate was a third of UK's 20% and the stimulus that would add to a country remaining within the Union.
