India have considered a trial and have approved it at a national level. Part of the SG018 international p3 trial.

According to NHS guidelines the main symptoms of COVID are high temp and cough so that would be two ILI symptoms.

I guess if they get some reasonable results in trials (may be not as effective as 1a, but effective at least) then they may have a low cost solution due to the lack of patent coverage on nebulised 1b? That's my understanding.

The 'more specifically bit seems a bit ambiguous but probably just my understanding.

So Dr Aurelian is then challenging that they submitted some sort of trial plan before Synairgen submitted their latest patent application specifically for COVID? And therefore it may not get granted?

Or maybe Dr Aurelien is an academic and not interested in 'commercialisation' as such. You wonder whether the governement could fund and arrange for the interferon formulation they're looking to use to be purchased and made ready for nebulisation and not sold as such. Unlikely but would probably do anything to catch up on their current state.

Probably different in Pharma and in a pandemic. If they've not tried to commercialise it then probably not much you can do?

Synairgen's patent here https://patents.google.com/patent/EP2544705A2/en seems to cover all Interferon Beta as long as it is delivered via the airway to treat and influenza-like infection. Surely that covers 1a 1b and doesn't depend on the formulation but on the method of delivery. So if they're using a nebuliser then this would be via the airway.

My thoughts are that they may try and treat the population in a 'non commercial' way and claim that the patent doesn't apply (paid for by the government for the greater good of the country?) Speculating massively.

I believe the new Aerogen nebuliser is less effective/efficient than the Philips one and that's one of the reasons they've upped the dose?
