Reading the information available it sounds like the finance function were not provided with the full set of contractual paperwork, and that there were side agreements in emails with the customer (eg. We start paying once installed and working, we have rights of refund if we don't like it for whatever reason).
However I cannot understand a reason why these would be considered "sophisticated", unless the salesperson doctored customer correspondence in a sophisticated way - just sounds like they had very lax controls and a culture of arrogance developed under the ceo.

On payment terms, sounds like they may have sale or return terms - if so they can't recognise income.

The length of stay / turnover at this level unfortunately is a real indicator of SOHs management of the company and management of people.

This is a slightly misleading statement.
It is very easy to provide a restatement of prior year numbers to have a like for like comparison.
BUT issues here are
- They have to take a part rather than full year
- Some costs in the prior year are all at the hq level and not split out
For the full p&l this probably is a bit of a faff, but they can easily do this for revenue which is the key driver for shareholders.

CEO given up ? just sounds like he got a better offer elsewhere, US Nasdaq companies in particular can provide more share options than UK. Top talent in the IT software sector get approached on a monthly basis.
But this together with the CFO, who left for a very similar sized AIM company after being promoted to the board, is more of a worry. Interesting to see where he goes, as he's not on gardening leave cannot be a direct competitor.

unfortunately I don't share your confidence in my profession.
These accounts should be qualified at a minimum, the auditors should not be allowed to practice, the non execs should be out on their a##e and the ex CFO should be hauled in front of the ACA professional conduct board and Have his letters taken off him.
I'll carry on wading through the accounts as they appear, always a few gems with kmk and hopefully this does provide some additional detail for those on the board.

Although the value in itself may not be that high it does provide an increase in arr, does show they can sell decent deals in the USA and are competitive, they need channels as an inexpensive route to market.

I work with some great engineers and know their mindset , you are no engineer as you ignore facts and in this case have very deliberately lied.
The brokers report says no such thing, it says there is the ability to resell this inventory elsewhere - so (despite the now less frequent rubbish from kmk and the buffoon st) admit the contract(s) is / are dead.
Clearly you didn't take my advice to read the pre Covid accounts 2019 where debtors were the last two years income. The bottom paragraph on page 35, in accounting speak, says income is pretty dodgy. This contract was in difficulty way before the convenient covid excuses.
While you're their page 36 on capitalised r&d, at half current levels, again basically a wet finger in the air.
