RE: Strike22 Jan 2023 18:25
Regarding unhappy members have already left CWU, I don't think that is the case..I believe PRIMARY reason why people join the union is personal reason ... To have protection incase their are disciplinary issue against them.....so I think unhappy union members are still there....who won't vote or will vote NO.
We've come this far - going by the comments on CWU twitter account , I think there are a lot of grumpy union members , and this time they are down on take home pay, so there is a possibility the threshold won't be reached this time..
More than the strike days , it's the overtime ban that is hurting the most...I know one postie who is down by 5k since the dispute...the CWU instead of digging in on outdated practices, should have agreed to the changes over period...give and take...this way I don't think RM would have introduced a blanket overtime ban, and other executive orders. AND most postie's are under the illusion once the dispute is over, overtime will be re introduced like before...??????
It's not the best PR by the company, but cwu have not been angels either, it is well documented that RM employees are paid above the average, and it's also clear they are highly inflexible.. you cannot have both ways... Working Sundays or lates is the norm everywhere.. CWU rather than just reject outright, should have been able to find middle ground....
About bumper profits , most postie's don't understand basic capitalism, that % of profits should go back to the shareholders...they believe all excess money should be given to them....
I think most postie's see shareholders as enemies, and not stakeholders or owners who are due rewards when the company does better... It's because of this lack of understanding of the average postie that CWU is able to be militant and combative...and drip feed a wrong narrative....which CWU members believe...
It's true that most postie's did vote for the strikes , but now things have changed on the ground , so maybe they might have seconds thoughts this time round. My view, and from what I read on the cwu twitter.
Teaching union, my point is if the ballot failed for the teaching union, possibly it might fail for cwu this time .... Or the yes vote won't be as thumping as last time.
Sorry for any spelling errors
